RE: Rubik's Cube
I actually watched that video, and it made sense what the guy did. I just don't know how I'm going to memorize those algorithms Toungue

RE: Rubik's Cube
That's what I thought at first, too.

To solve the first layer, and the first layer's corners, I don't do the algorithms. i simply think "move the green out of the way, move the face down, move the green in" then I reset it.

For example, the second layer algorithms, the way he describes it, it seems like 8 moves (he has 8 sets of notation on the screen). In reality, it's 5. You do the 5 moves, then the next part you can look at it, and see what you have to do in order to reset the sides you have already completed.

RE: Rubik's Cube
heh rubik's cube. I got addicted like last year. I think my best time is low 1 min. I do layer-by-layer. Haven't bothered with the 2 by 2 yet.

Rubix cubes suck D:

quoted for truth

If you guys own a cube, and actually go watch a video or something on youtube explaining how, it'll take about an hour until you can solve it Toungue

Sounds impossible, but there are some REALLY helpful videos out there. Right now I'm just watching some to help me solve it faster Toungue
That takes half the fun out of it, though. It says a lot more when someone can solve it for the first time without help than someone who can solve it for the first time with help. Which is why I'm in the group that will probably never solve mine. I already feel like I've been spoiled in this thread.

I had a friend this past school year that got properly addicted, and within about a month Rubik's Cubes were floating all around the school. It was funny to watch it happen (especially since he was an IB kid, albeit an IB slacker, and the rest were non-IB). I think he got his time down under a minute in less than a month of practicing.

RE: Rubik's Cube
Just to let you know, it's very difficult to solve a rubiks cube without prior knowledge of the algorithms. Like.. IMPOSSIBLE.

GL though rift Toungue

Well, we at least know ONE person has done it Toungue

Earlier tonight I got my first sub-90 second solve, I got lucky with the last layer, completely skipping one algorithm. Big Grin

RE: Rubik's Cube
I have an uncompleted one upstairs from years ago XD I've completed it once, but haven't really had the time to learn specific combinations Toungue

Ignorance is bliss.

RE: Rubik's Cube
I was wondering about what people do before they actually start the timer/actually making moves.

I usually just pick a side, and figure out how to solve the cross, since I can't process enough in order to figure out more.

So, how much do you look ahead at first, or do you not at all?

RE: Rubik's Cube
I usually take white, but I look around to see if any other part of another cross has been filled. Then I just match the center of the second layer, and complete the top face.

RE: Rubik's Cube
Got my first below 1 minute solve earlier, two of the last corners were solved after one switch-thing, and I skipped 1 on the second layer I think. Big Grin
