looking to better my current 1p set for the BD. I've not been too happy with the Prickly Potions, so what best to do for my setup? I'm only doing wars and battle plots. I'm doing DoN currently and up to Snow Beast.

Suggestions? I have about 3 million in the coffers and am willing to wait and upgrade accordingly. I guess a 100% freezer is in order soon?

Yes, I'd suggest upgrading to a 100% freezer (I'm assuming you're attached to your pet species, so it would have to be a H4000 Helmet). That means you'd have to sell off a Bow of Destiny to get it though, and with your dislike for the Prickly Potions, it would rather limit your offensive capabilities. So I'd also suggest selling off both the Prickly's and the Black Frost Cannon (no need for that after getting the H4k) and buy a Sword of Apocalypse, giving you a set of:

H4000 Helmet
Bow of Destiny
Sword of Apocalypse
Winged Scarab
Greater Healing Scroll
Downsize!

... leaving you with a couple of slots for situational reflectors/Thick Smoke Bombs for the tougher battles.

Perhaps I don't know how to use the Prickly potions. What is the best way to use them?

Okay, this is my advice

You should use Prickly Potions if you have less than 125 strength or less than 200HP. You are in that category.

I beat the Snow Beast a while ago with considerably lower stats. I didn't buy a Prickly Potion; I just used one that I've restocked.
My stats were:

HP: 200
STR: 100 (85 boost)
DEF: 50 (35 boost)

Turn 1: 100% freezer, Prickly Potion, Burrow (must use jade ss and you cannot be frozen)
Turn 2: Honey Potion, Fungus Ray + Berserk
Turn 3: Downsize! + Prickly Potion + Fiery Gaze (must freeze)
Turn 4: Prickly Potion + Fungus Ray + species attack.

(two prickly potions would be better, it's just that I wouldn't want to spend an extra 700k for that)

For cooly's strategy there, if you're using a scroll of freezing/terror stone you'll want to fiery gaze turn 1. It would royally suck to freeze him, have the scroll/stone break, and then not get the 2nd freeze.
