Using both Direct Damage and Group Direct Damage?
Has anyone else done this? I'm about halfway through my first game, and after seeing all the DD vs. GDD debates for Mipsy, why not use both? I've found it quite effective.

Because then you can't max out other abilities. It's definitely a bad idea. You really only need one. Direct is better (especially against bosses), but just getting GDD and that's all would still be better than getting both. The 2 abilities serve the same purpose, so there's very little advantage in getting both.

RE: Using both Direct Damage and Group Direct Damage?
I recommend Direct Damage. The goal of Neoquest (and most other RPG's) is to mow down ONE opponent at a time. DD is about twice as fast of GDD, it's
200 Damage versus 64 damage (or a maximum of 254 damage) if there are 4 party members, but the goal is to mow down one member at a time. (especially since in NQII you can't resurrect a dead party member in a battle.)

I've maxed out both. Might've been a bad idea, but I'm still surviving.

In my first game, I tried to use both DD and GDD. But I can't survive. Maybe because I hadn't read any guide Toungue

Just out of curiosity, what "other abilities" are you referring to? I plan to max DD, GDD, and Group Haste, and split the remaining 14 between the innates. Seems to work for me... Dontkown

As long as you don't max out slowing, you can win the game Wink

Lol. Group Haste always looked better to me than Slowing, considering it doesn't even work most of the time Toungue

You forget than DD misses 1/3 of the time, or else does pitiful damage. But I agree to a point, it's more useful than GDD sometimes. Hence the purpose of the topic, and my using both. Part of my decision was my frustration when both enemies were at low HP, and not being able to kill them both. On the flip side, it's also annoying when there's just one enemy with just above 64 HP, and not being able to kill it. Like I said before, you get the best of both worlds.

And it's not like I'm going to be using Damage Shields and Slowing, so other than maxing both innates I don't really see where the skill points would be better spent.

RE: Using both Direct Damage and Group Direct Damage?
With T's Multiple Targets and M's GDD, I would hit with R and heal with V. I've also maxed out group haste, it's been very important. Slowing strikes don't work for me much; I'd rather use potions.

I agree, slowing potions > slowing strikes or Mipsy's slow. I've also been using Velm's Group Shielding, and it's very underrated IMO. Stops enemy spells dead in their tracks, and it's easy to heal off the reduced damage.

Group Shielding is almost maxed out for me. I'm at skill lvl 12.
