Is there a general concept for putting a set together?
I was just wondering if there is a general concept for putting a set together, so that I don't always have to come here to ask what my set should consist of. Maybe other people can read your tips and get a general idea of how to put their own set together just by looking up items and prices.

What I mean by a general concept for putting a set together is, does each set consist of basically the same types items? If so what types of items are they?

Ex.

1. Freezer
2. Constant
3. Constant
4. Healer
5. Shield
6. Bomb
7. Dual Duty
8. Single Use/Bomb?

Something like that.. Also which items do you think should be upgraded first?

This might seem a little confusing, so ask if you're confused. I really want to know your opinions =)

Thanks

RE: Is there a general concept for putting a set together?
This is a good point actually, something I was thinking about the other day actually...
I think there is a "general" concept, but it would vary from person to person. A lab pet would probably not benefit from a dual duty, whereas a tank would probably have dual -dual duties (if that makes sense).
One thing I do know, the freezer would SO not be in slot 1 for 2-player Big Grin. In 2-p, slot one is stealer/"decoy" (Sparkshooter ftw!)/Fairly useful species weapon.
And what should be upgraded would depend on training. Healer would be relative to HP. No use going from Greater Healing Scroll to 50% species if you only have 55Hp. Initially, though, the constants would be first, with bomb kept in check with it, and the freezer dependent on quality of constants and budget.

In short, my answer is "It depends...". Which is why we were given the gift of IDB. Smile

Yeah, it varies depending on whether you do 1 or 2-player (or both) and whether you've trained defence. A basic set structure for someone with a lab pet (low defence, higher str and HP) would look like this (in no particular order):

1. Main attacker
2. Main attacker
3. Freezer
4. Bomb
5. Healer
6: Defence item, percentage-based (usually Downsize! or a blocker/reflector)
7/8: One-use bomb, stealer, another blocker, backup attacker, whatever. Tailor these spots to your opponent.

People who've trained defence might want more dual-duties or shields. 2-player battlers will almost definitely want a third attacker for some icon variety. Pretty much every set should have at least two mains plus the bomb, healer, and freezer, though.

RE: Is there a general concept for putting a set together?
depends, really depends as han said, everybody has their own oppinion but the next is the one who i apply most of the time (im a 2p batter who trained def)
In this order:

Shield
Blocker (D!, T-Tear, ect)
Freezer
Healer
Dual Dutty 2/ Bomb
Dual Dutty 1
Constant 2
Constant 1

it works better if the shield block icons that you doesnt do but your opponents do (thanks rabid!)

EDIT: about what items should be upgraded first depends of the level. if you havent a 100% freezer and you have the money for one go for it, and if you havent a proper healer and needs one go for it. if you have booth get at least a constant(those doesnt varies with the type of battling that the peope does). the other depends about the way you trained.

What's the worst that I can say? Things are better if I stay! So long and goodnight, So long and goodnight!

RE: Is there a general concept for putting a set together?
1: Freezer
2: Healer
3: Offensive Multiuse
4: Offensive Multiuse
5-8: Variable, dependent on stats, budget and 1p/2p.
(ordered by priority, not the order they should be in your set)

If the batter can't yet afford Wand of Reality/Bow of Destiny or better, then Honey Potion will be in the set of anyone that can afford it.

If the battler can't yet afford Faerie Slingshot or attack peas, then Ghostkerbomb will be in the set of anyone that can afford it

If the battler fights 1p, or if the battler hasn't trained defense then one or more of these will be in the set Downsize!, Thick Smoke Bomb, Thyoras Tear

If the battler has trained defense, then Ghostkershield will be in the set of anyone that can afford it, with the possible exception being battlers who can afford Illusens Staff or Rod of Dark Nova

If the battler fights mainly 2p, there will be a third offensive multiuse weapon in the set

That said, as an underequipped lab rat who fights 2p against mainly "hidden tower" (pcc, gbomb) to "tower plus"(gsword, FSS) level opponents, my usual set looks somthing like this:

Full Blocking Dual Duty
Full Blocking Dual Duty
Reflector
Freezer
Bomb
Healer
Offensive Multiuse
Variable Slot: (changed to suit what I think the opponent is carrying) Can be Stealer, Thick Smoke Bomb, 2nd Offensive Multiuse, 2nd Reflector or additional Full Blocker

"Siggy? whats the real name of the item? *sigh* im new to this whole battledome items....so, sorry! "

Thanks alot guys, learned quite a bit.
Can anyone point out some difference between what to use in 1p and not in 2p? Are dual duties useful in 1p? if not what can i substitute this section with.

RE: Is there a general concept for putting a set together?
I'll make a new topic for this another time, but here is a thought,

Concider for the first slot, a reflector of an iccon that is NOT in any of your weapons.
you want them to take it, and then to use it. Minimum of two item uses lost.

A species weapon works well, too... maybe not if your pet is a kacheek or something else common like that, though. Wink Some species weapons are even useful.
