RE: Which is the BEST defence for new battlers
I vote Patched Magic Hat

Good against many combos. Physical is common at this level (Club, PFF etc) and there is a very very high chance of some wind setting off the extra defence nowadays. Light is now very common up there (PCC RSB SC GoC) so your more likely to find some usefulness out of the shield in a battle (vs the wind from Leaf Shield). Earth is always useful, HP, SC, Tyrannian Lupe Tooth, many other random weapons.

Only slightly beats Sophies Magic Hat because Sophies has high rarity and cost is fluctuating too much, and it doesn't block physical. Leaf Shield is worst because water is not common- Ice Club/EoE mainly.

Advice-giver.

But yes, I do agree that Patched Magic Hat is the best of the three, since it's cheaper and more useful in battles.

I'm not a fan of non-100% freezers or dual-duties.

I say Patched Magic Hat, because of the commoness of the icons it defends.

Although, if Sophies Magic Hat starts to deflate, it will be worth it.

RE: Which is the BEST defence for new battlers
Sophies is a bit expensive for what it does, especially since the 3 dark it stops can be taken care of with Golden Compass, which just about everyone has in their sets right now. That, and the uncommon-ness of water icons in the dome lead to an overwhelming vote in favour of the patched magic hat

RE: Which is the BEST defence for new battlers
Umm...I think the poll is fairly meaningless. The BEST for you depends on what other items you have in your set, what species you have (for any weaknesses or resistances), and what you're trying to accomplish. It also depends on your stats, as at beginner levels, if your defense is being trained at least equal to your strength, dual duties are often a better total package (offense and defense) than a pure shield. What you ideally want to be able to do is defend against ANY particular attack with SOMETHING either in your set, or that can be rotated into it. If you're facing an opponent who does a lot of dark attack, the Leaf Shield and Patched Magic Hat are both useless. If what you need to stop is water attack, then Sophies Magic Hat and the Patched Magic Hat are useless. It terms of total overall "potential" effectiveness, it's fairly easy to rate the three weapons, with Sophies Magic Hat being the best. I'd argue that the Leaf Shield would be second best and the Patched Magic Hat third, but the point is, it's more important what else you have and can do in your set than which of these is "the best".

You can pretend to care, but you can't pretend to BE THERE!

RE: Which is the BEST defence for new battlers
Just buy all of them and rotate between then when you battle . Comprise Shiny Shoal Shell Shield and Earthen Scorchstone too for rotation.

I meant the Water from leaf shield, and i meant *less* physical on sophies hat.
