Eragon/Eldest
So how many other people really enjoyed these books? ive read them through several times now, and i love all the plot twists and such, im pretty sure the third book will have something to do with roran, they got Eragon, "eldest" ~cough~ i wont ruin the books for the people that havnt, and they really set Roran up as a big character in the third book. any thoughts? theory's of your own? lets just make sure we dont ruin it for anyone that hasnt read them Smile

I've never actually heard of the series... Perhaps you could provide us with a better description of them

RE: Eragon/Eldest
Sure can,

"Eragon" and "The Eldest" are books 1 and 2 in the Inheritance Trilogy, The Auther is Christopher Paolini, he was 15 when he started righting Eragon, and Eldest when he was 21. "Eragon" was recently made into a movie, however anyone that has read the books and likes the movie better... well lets just say i would be suprised. but its a good movie Smile just missing alot from the books. The Books are obvously fantasy, and it has a kind of J.R.R. Tolkien approach to the books, humans, elves, dwarves, but then add in alot more, the bad guys arnt orcs Wink and there is alot more magic done, but its all cool, i encourage you to check out the books, there awseme reading Smile you can check out the website too. Smile

i picked u my own copies of both the books. i love them. i am not going for the movie. i heard that it isnt that great and it will ruin the books for me. i like to be able to imagine the scenes rather than have one set in front of me

RE: Eragon/Eldest
I think I will Smile I'm an aspiring writer of fantasy... I actually started one of my novels when I was 13 Smile I love to look at a successful writer's technique as well as simply just read the books

RE: Eragon/Eldest
Eragon was decent, nothing spectacular. Paolini's inexperience and lack of, well, writing finesse really showed at parts, and the plot, while interesting, was fairly predictable. I labelled it a mediocre LOTR ripoff after my first read, since some of the similarities are disturbingly obvious (things that I disliked about LOTR too, gah, my major gripe I won't say since I'd be revealing spoilers), and to be honest, my opinion hasn't changed much.

Eldest, however, was in my opinion absolutely brilliant. I've lost count of the number of times I've re-read the book. Paolini wrote a masterpiece showcasing marvelous writing ability (a massive jump from that in Eragon) and a great plot with wonderful twists, along with fleshing out the characters very nicely. My enjoyment of it was only spoiled by his furthering the major gripe mentioned earlier. Just to understand Eldest, I'd recommend Eragon. I am awaiting the third book like I have never done for a novel ever before.

The movie, oh god. It had me in stitches at times. The scene where Saphira undergoes 'evolution' Pokemon-style in the sky? Sheer hilarity. XD And some of the lines were just so corny! I enjoyed it, though certainly not for the same reasons as the book!

I'd love to get a chance to check out your work. Wink I'm a big fan of the genre myself, though I've become disillusioned with modern fantasy novels since they tend to include elements that I find very undesirable. Any wonder that I've been turning to Star Wars novels and fantasy novels which many consider children's fiction for my reading fix of late? The Inheritance Trilogy was a godsend as far as I was concerned.
