Train pet or buy a set?
Here's my pets stats at the moment:

Species : Chomby
Level : 57
Health : 294 / 294
Strength : ULTIMATE (250)
Defence : EXCELLENT (54)
Move : AWESOME (68)
Intelligence : master genius (71)

I used to train at the Training School until I ran out of money and resorted to the lab ray for about a year. I battle 1-player only, so I haven't been getting too concerned about my lack of defense. However, my set hasn't been upgraded seriously for quite a while now:

Greater Healing Scroll
Downsize!
Snowglobe Staff
Purple Sticky Hand
Obsidian Dagger
Obsidian Dagger
Illusens Earth Potion

I have about 1 mil in stocks and 2 mil in the bank and make about 10k a day. Should I tend towards upgrading my set or going for the 300 boost?

Keep your money in Stocks either way: pulling money from them is just going to cost you money in the long run.

At least upgrade to dual-Scuzzys Combs, or dual-Ice Clubs or somesuch. The eleven-iconers would eat your budget, and the thirteen-iconers are out of your range. Saving up for an H4KH would be good, but at the rate you're moving it's not a solid option.

Dump the dual-Daggers and the IEP. You might want to consider upgrading from Snowglobe Staff to Black Frost Cannon.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm running ten-iconers on a 550 Strength Boost Pet, but I've also got some fun toys to go along with them.

Agreed. You just don't have the budget to go for 13 iconers. If you only have 1 pet I'd try doing some kitchen quests (if you don't already) to compliment your labbing. Your stats (except defense, which doesn't matter much at all in 1p untill you get really high) aren't unbalanced too much IMO. You could continue labbing and not training (only making the gap between your hp and str greater) or you could try using terror troves to up your lvl (which shattered will say is a good idea anyway because it seems you make a little bit of cash off of them) then once your lvl is high enough you could train your strength a bit.

Definetly keep your money in stocks, infact, keep buying the max per day you can. It will pay off in the long run, and from what I understand, once you reach about 250k-300k shares you will be getting more money out than putting in.

Saving for a H4k is a good idea while you are training aswell.

I don't like shields and non-100% freezers...

Challenge Swift_Rev14_6 if you are a 55 boost pet lookin for a fight (no 100% freeze ofcourse)

BTW, 2p FTW!

Scuzzys comb doesn't seem too safe for me, with all the new intermediate weapons Neopets is pulling out. I think it would lose its value gradually as I don't get on Neopets that much. Ice Club does seem a safer bet however. About 50% of my 1-player battling is with plots/wars.

Does defence count in 1-player battling now? I was under the impression that full-blockers and reflectors made defence redundant.

Anyway, I'm hoping to get zapped to either a Gelert, Kacheek or Elephante for the cheap healer, and just train with Terror Troves until I'm at a decent level where I can start training at the Island Trainng School again.

That's a debatable subject. What it comes down to is whether it's worth the time and money to you. I should run the figures on the cost difference again, though it's still difficult to factor in the application value of G-Shield and the Tabard.

In my experience, Terror Troves average more money than you spend on them (assuming 800 apiece), and give Levels around 5% of the time. Even assuming Terror Troves break even, or lose you a little money, the Levels easily make up the difference, and should rapidly exceed it. If you're just Terror Troving, it'll be a long time before your Level catches up to your stats.

I was thinking about getting a honey potion for a bomb, but the price seems a tad inflated at the moment.

I battle one player, so a 100% freeze isn't crucial, right?

The price of around 800k is pretty much teh price that have been goin on for nearly a year or so. I do remember it being  a few k cheaper, but as new battlers enter teh dome, it is just inevitable that the prices go up.

Black Frost Cannon is NOT a 100% freezer. The reason for the "upgrade" is there are more disadvantages in using the Snowglobe Staff then there is using the BFC. This is, of course, a subjective "upgrade".

As to address your statement, it may not be AS crucial to have a 100% freezer in 1-player, but it is sure gonna be frustrating for you without one, especially in times of war when time is of the essence. A person with 100% freezer is bound to end up battling more (and having more war points subsequently), then someone who is relying too much on the withdraw-till-freeze strategy.

RE: Train pet or buy a set?
Nuuuuuu, never get the Black Frost Cannon!

What CadaverGrey said about freezing is right. And don't forget the extremely frustrating lags that occur during war times. With a 100% freezer, you'll be saying goodbye to the Withdraw-until-Freeze strategy as CadaverGrey calls it. I personally hate all non-100% freezers, but I'd rather use the Snowglobe Staff instead of Black Frost Cannon. The judgement is up to you to make.

Sometimes, freezers are not necessary in 1-player, such as when you are fighting an opponent who is weak when your pet is one close to Majal_Kita.

I'm not a fan of non-100% freezers or dual-duties.

RE: Train pet or buy a set?
Why would you rather use Snowglobe Staff over BFC? The BFC has a higher freeze percentage AND it always attacks with 3-5 icons (many people can survive long enough to try freezing in a couple consecutive rounds, and every little bit of attack helps!) The staff can waste turns defending against nonexistent snowballs or giving a useless yellow snowball or can even break before freezing. It's fine for newbies who can't afford anything else, but BFC is better. And of course any serious battler should get a 100% freezer when they can.

RE: Train pet or buy a set?
From my experience of using the Black Frost Cannon, it never froze my opponent for me. Never. Out of at least 33 tries, it never froze for me. After being unable to freeze for 33 tries (at least), I sold my Black Frost Cannon for a cheap price and switched to Snowglobe Staff instead. Froze better for me, but I still don't like non-100% freezers, mainly because I'm extremely impatient and just can't sit there withdrawing all day long.

I'm not a fan of non-100% freezers or dual-duties.

RE: Train pet or buy a set?
Dang.. you are that unlucky? I have never gotten that far into using it without it freezing. The max number of times it went without freezing for me was 5-6 and I'm sure it holds true for MOST of the battlers who ever used it. Question
