Create a Neopet?
Hey! I'm kinda new to iDB, I'm thinking of creating a new neopet, what would be a nice starter pet with a cheap healer/freezer/stealer/6iconer species weapon?

I have a budget of roughly 200k and a newbie set;

Illusen's Earth Potion
Staff of Impenetrable Gloom
Downsize!
Blue Scorchstone
Snowglobe Staff
Purple Sticky Hand
Scarab Ring
Scarab Ring

Oh, I'd also prefer a pet that can be painted Mutant. :3

Try an elephante:

The ray gun has a small chance of freezing (like 2-4%), but does 8 icons.

They also have a buyable 50% healer (which you won't really need until you have more HP)

The ray gun does reliable damage, but the extremely low freeze percentage makes you unable to use another more effective one.

In reality, species weapons really aren't all that important, especially for newer pets. Now more than ever, there are cheap, more powerful alternatives to even the strongest species weapons. Until your HP passes 100, a Greater Healing Scroll will be more effective as a healer anyway. That goes double if you're planning to lab.

However, if you're looking for a pet that will be good in battle, I would pick the Pteri. Air icons are very common in the lower-level BD, and the Pteri has a 40% resistance to them. Also, any item with the word "worm" it in (including the 1np Worm Nugget) will fully heal a Pteri and cure it of any disease, making it the ultimate war pet. If you get to the point where a species healer would actually be effective for you, then you should consider morphing.

As for your set, I would make the following suggestions:

Get rid of the Earth Potion. It doesn't do bomb-worthy damage anyways, and it is can only be used once per battle.

You don't need so much Physical defense in your set. Trade the Staff of Impenetrable Gloom for a [b]Stone Club[/idb] or Ice Club, because you need a strong, pure attacker, especially if you plan on freezing.

Downsize! is a great weapon, and one of my favorites, but at your level it is probably not as effective as you would like. Try a Leaf Shield instead, because you will likely block considerably more damage if you use it correctly.

Since you already have a Blue Scorchstone, you might as well use it. At a new pet level, the overheal from this can actually cancel out an entire attack as well as fully heal you, making this extremely powerful for such a low price. It's a lucky thing Tarla gave this out.

I'm not a huge fan of Snowglobe Staff, but without shelling out a few hundred K, you won't find any better. Try to upgrade to a Black Frost Cannon as soon as possible.

Purple Sticky Hand is by far the most cost-effective stealer out there. Keep it (but put it first in your inventory in case your opponent also has a stealer, because then they will steal this).

Scarab Rings are very cost-effective, and the defense on them is pretty good. However, two of them is a bit much. Like I said before, consider replacing one with a stronger attacker like Ice Club or Stone Club, because you have the funds to do so. Once you get more money (shouldn't take too long), upgrade one of those to Golden Compass or one of the Neoquest II weapons.

I'm still confused between a Pteri, Kau and Elephante. Any more suggestions?

Here's how my BD set looks right now after upgrading and downgrading;

Golden Compass
Ice Club
Scarab Ring
Illusens Potion
Snowglobe Staff
Purple Sticky Hand
Blue Scorchstone
Leaf Shield

SDB;

Scarab Ring
Downsize!

Disagree.

Species can serve as an anti-stealer which also serves as a quite substantial weapon, especially on early BD (unless you facing an opponent of the same species). Iron Lupe Helm, Dazzling Steel Lenny Mask, and Kiko Water Cannon are just some fine examples.

To answer Mrk's question, I would consider a Lupe ontop of the other recommended pets being listed, cos the magic word here is cheap.

Iron Lupe Helm as a cheap 6 MONO-iconer dual duty makes it's best species weapon, and the Ancient Lupe Wand makes the cheapest (but fragile) 100% freezer you can get in the market. The Iron Lupe Collar is a cheap shield that is effective against the common Stone Club.

Lupes also have it's own species stealer: Lupe Grabber Jaw. It works almost the same as the Heavy Robe of Thievery in that it disappears after stealing (it won't go to your opponent to have them use it and it has a high stealing rate. But the word 'cheap' doesn't apply here.

And unfortunately, Lupes have yet to have its own species healer, so that is a major set back to this once popular pet... Sad

RE: Create a Neopet?
I wouldn't count on a lupe healer. I waited several lupe days for one before finally sucking it up and morphing to a gelert. Wink That said, I also suggest the lupe, for all the reasons mentioned. My battlepet was a lupe for years, and I loved the ancient lupe wand -- percentage freezers drive me nuts (I'm way too impatient for the withdrawal method), and I found the wand didn't break on me too often. So yeah, lupe. You can always morph to a gelert or another pet with a 50% healer once you have 100-150+ hit points.

RE: Create a Neopet?
If you are still pretty new to this, I suggest you get a Kau. First of all, species weapons are mostly high r#, so are very high priced and I wouldn't even think about the ones except 100% freeze.
Then you worry about abilities. Well, Kau has 10% resistance to 6 of the 7 elements, so that's pretty good to 'start off' with.'
As for weapons, since 6 iconers are too common, get dual 9 iconers while they are buyable.
A good healer to begin with is Blue Scorchstone.
Have fun.

RE: Create a Neopet?
Thanks for all the advice, I recently got a Lupe, here's how my BD set looks now;

Purple Sticky Hand
Snowglobe Staff switch to Ancient Lupe Wand for important battles.
Ice Club
Stone Club
Golden Compass
Scarab Ring
Blue Scorchstone
Leaf Shield

My next problem is training, would it be easier to train using the lab ray (which I also recently got)? dubloon training? codestone training?

RE: Create a Neopet?
all the above. The ray is unbalanced. The codestones are fast, the dubloons are slower.

If your going to be able to be there, you put in codestones at every chance, when you have to be away, like when your sleeping, put it into dubloon. And once a day, unless your hp or strength are likely to go over the limit, you zap with the lab ray.

You also should concider terror troves, slow, but safe.
