A variable ranking...
Hi

today at the news TNT said that High Score Ranking or NP Ratio fluctuating are now updated regularly based on site activity.

This is a way to lessen neopian inflation? I do like the Ranking fluctuating based on site activity but NP ratio... now i'm poorer than yesterday.

RE: A variable ranking...
So the value of each game did go down?

If that's the case, this may be the "final" blow to prevent the lower class from really building up. Stocks are left (and have been far too powerful for far too long), but they're really the only thing that's been left, and if Games have taken a hit (or do from this), then it's really going to be a serious blow to prevent people from building up on Neo anymore.

it might also be a blow to mallers, which profit from people who play games buying their stuff

RE: A variable ranking...
It seems like some games would see an increase in their NP ratio with this new system, though. So maybe those games that didn't used to be profitable to play will be now. I don't know for sure, but it seems like this change can't be entirely bad.

RE: A variable ranking...
I just went through my usual 60k lot of games. No change in the amounts received from the games. I'm guessing it might be a while before any real changes take place. I suspect my earnings won't be too drastically affected even if neopoint returns take a hit, since the bulk of it comes from sponsors, whose neopoint rewards are pretty much fixed from their release date, and the only actual Neopets games that I play are those that, dare I say it, I am pretty good at, hence at the very most any change will require me to take more time to achieve the necessary score for a 1000 np send. Admittedly, time is at a premium for me nowadays. Should things turn out for the worst though, I don't exactly have many avenues of income to fall back on...

And the change in high score rankings doesn't seem to have done anything other than give me an amusing number of Grand Masters for sponsor games. Why my Tubular Kiko Racing score isn't a Grand Master now though, makes me wonder...

EDIT: I'm having people tell me that they think this is the year's April Fool's Joke.

RE: A variable ranking...
I'm thinking this change will actually prevent the DEFLATION, not inflation of cheap items...sure, some things like codestones have been constantly inflating, but weapons like GoC have been constantly deflating. Perhaps this new system will allow gamers to make MORE money, rather than less...I don't see why everyone's pessimistic about this change...most of TNT's changes are for the worse, but usually the one's regarding gaming are for the goodToungue, like daily dare, world challenges (despite the downgrade), and hopefully this new point giving system.

Muhahaha?

Woo, I'm not the only optimistic one Big Grin See? See? I'm not crazy!

Logically, TNT would want more people playing games. Agreed? Because the more popular games become, the more they can brag to advertisers about how many people will see any game they pay for. If games become more profitable because they give out more np, games should become more popular, and more companies will pay to advertise on Neopets. So, the odds of this being a bad change that will hurt gamers' incomes are fairly low.

Unless, of course, you use the logic that if games are less-profitable, a greater number of games will need to be played by users with no other source of income...hmmm...

60k a day from games... that's impressive

and I think its designed to try and even out the games... and get more people playing the unpopular games rather than to increase or decrease profits from games, although they did seem to stress getting less np rahter then getting more... I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens to ratios, becuase so far I haven't noticed any changes to the games that I actually knew the ratios for

So you guys think there's no possibility of this being an April Fool's Joke? Meh.

Your earlier logic had me convinced and in the early stages of optimism, then you had to come up with this...XD Now I'm feeling all pessimistic again.

petmaster912 Wrote:60k a day from games... that's impressive

It's easier than what most people think, what with the abundance of sponsor games and whatnot. I put in quite a bit of effort as well, seeing as it's my only consistent source of income (WCs of late have a habit of not featuring games I'm good at, and a horrible ISP coupled with an even worse reaction speed makes restocking a bad idea). Recently I've had to stop at 45k due to time constraints though, so any reduction in np ratio will hurt me.

None. The April Fool's Joke, as far as I can recall, always takes place on April Fool's Day. Which is a Sunday this year, so... hmm...

Edit: I just realized. We should have seen a change by now. They have tens of thousands of scores logged from Daily Dare already.

RE: A variable ranking...
I saw a change in the Web of Vernax. The score for 1,000 neopoints has dropped from 2,500 to 2,000. Also, there are still quite a few games that you could make 3,000 neopoints per day from. So far, I don't see anything really bad about this new rule.

Enter my lair but, please, don't get stuck in the web.
