Return of an Old Battler?

Return of an Old Battler?
Well, I'm completely and totally sick of all the hackers infesting Maple Story- so I'm beginning to take a break from it. Then I remembered the game that used to eat up all the time in my life - which I eventually quit: Neopets.

I used to be a battler, and while I was never rich enough to be good, I did my research and new a lot about the 'dome. Unfortunately, I haven't played in over a year now, and I'm far, far behind. So I came here, to the one place that always used to have what I needed to find.

First, I need to find ways to know more about the current state of Neo: how's it doing? How's it changed in about.... 14 months (maybe a bit more...) and what should I be ready for? Is RS'ing still the primary way to make money? where should I be RSing at? I used to do food, haunted furniture, and battle magic. Service any better? still mass icings daily? (although I suppose they're better than the complete lack of bans in maple)

Then I'll need help to construct a battle set. I have absolutely no idea where to go there, but I'm positive it's changed.

I enjoy battling defensively and strategically. I used to enjoy beating out opponents with larger budgets and better stats through the way I fought, regardless of my limits. I remember that my main goal when I left was saving up for a Honey Potion, but that never really got anywhere.

Enough about me - on to my account.

Species: Grarrl (lab pet, so likely to change)
str: 65
def: 51
HP: 78
lvl: 39

I believe my trainning plan was to lab up to 85 str, then train defence and level along accordingly.

I have burrow, sink, drain life, etc - the important faerie abilities.

weapons:

Attack: Obsidian Dagger
Secondary Attacker: Scarab Ring
Shield: Leaf Shield
Shield: Downsize!
Freezer: Snowglobe Staff
Bomb: Fire Muffin
Healer: Greater Healing Scroll
Other: Purple Sticky Hand

Currently, I have a budget of leftovers, as I gave away most of my things. I'll BE RSing with the money I DO have, so count my budget at say.... 500k?

Well, I haven't been on NP for a while either but there's been dramatic changes in the weapons available. 7-9 iconers are now easily affordable in the 50k-300k range. I don't RS so I don't know what's up with that, but I heard that stock times are not at the beginning of the minute any more, but they are random.

Well, you can start with upgrading Obsidian Dagger to Psellias Fighting Fan or Pike Pike if you are patient enough to fish for one at the Underwater Fishing Cavern. Instead of using Fire Muffins every battle, just go for an Ice Club or Stone Club depending on whether you do 1-player or 2-player. If you do 1-player only, Ice Club is your choice. If you do 2-player or both, go for Stone Club. Otherwise, just continue saving up for a Honey Potion while training.

I'm not a fan of non-100% freezers or dual-duties.

RE: Return of an Old Battler?
You can now afford 9 iconers!

Stone Club and Golden Compass are very good in terms of iconage and offer some useful defence.

Leaf shield is still a good shield but you may want to consider Patched Magic Hat

Downsize! is still a must in any level battling.

Your freezer is fine too at your budget.

A bomb slot is not necessary. Pike Pike will be nice if you want to attack with some unexpected water (Still hard to block with no leaf shield!) . Or keep scarab ring is ok Smile
Others are fine.

New set!

Attack: Stone Club (90k)
Secondary Attacker: Golden Compass (280k)
Third Attacker : Pike Pike (180k) / Scarab Ring
Shield : Leaf Shield / Patched Magic Hat (25k)
Shield: Downsize!
Freezer: Snowglobe Staff
Healer: Greater Healing Scroll
Other: Purple Sticky Hand

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about Golden Compass. Maybe because I have been on a two-week vacation...
