(Corrected) Major Gloat: College Apps
So, I had to send in my online application to my first-choice college by midnight eastern time today. One part required me to upload a resume of my extracurriculars. I tried to upload the appropriate Word document (which they promised was an acceptable format)...
...And got an error message. After a few more tries, I finally converted my resume into a PDF file and submitted that. No problems. Phew. So I submitted my online application and looked at the checklist. Apparently, there was a form I was supposed to mail to the college by the 1st that I totally overlooked. What day is it today? Drat. Fortunately, they changed their mailing deadline to the 3rd, so that mistake isn't fatal. And then I took another look at the checklist. Apparently, they won't review my application until they get my transcript from the college I'm currently taking a class at. Issue being? My first term ended partway through December. It takes the college three weeks to send transcripts out-of-state. And the transcript is also due by the 1st (now 3rd, but it doesn't help). Brilliant. So...three strikes and I'm out, I suppose. It was my first-choice college too. ![]() Update 1: The college accepted my application, but put me on their waitlist. Update 2: Caltech accepted me! -4² = -16 My name's Jasmine, but if you want to call me by my username, remember that it has three e's... |

RE: Major Cry: College Apps
Don't fret! Most colleges only require YOUR stuff to be in by the deadline, because they know you can't always control what your school does.

So, you were right, they did accept my application. But I didn't get in - I got waitlisted, which is a college's way of saying "We love you, but not enough to actually keep you." So now I'm all depressed. Especially because my best friend got in. If you think having a 4.0 unweighted GPA and a 2400 SAT score guarentees acceptance to any college...trust me. It doesn't. -4² = -16 My name's Jasmine, but if you want to call me by my username, remember that it has three e's... |

RE: Major Cry: College Apps
Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering. Engineering-only, 300-ish students, free tuition, and a bunch of really awesome things, such as a scanning electron microscope and a full machine shop. They accepted 100 students this year out of a little over 1000 applications, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised that I didn't get in, but still...I was hoping...

Weee a waitingt list is so much hope, i would love to be on one. Of course now that i'm looking a job there are just Yes or No answers... and in someplaces when they say No you can't ask again.

I guess a waiting list is better than just getting rejected, but not by much. For some colleges (MIT, for example), the odds of getting off the waiting list are close to zero. I know Olin didn't accept anyone from their waiting list last year, and possibly not the year before either, but I'm not sure about that. Expect more cries from me in the very, very near future...I find out whether or not I got in to Caltech this week. -4² = -16 My name's Jasmine, but if you want to call me by my username, remember that it has three e's... |

W00t! Just heard back from Caltech today...I got in! Not only that, but they're giving me a full-tuition scholarship!
![]() ...And two of my friends (at least, haven't gotten ahold of the third friend who applied) both got in too! This is soooo awesome! -4² = -16 My name's Jasmine, but if you want to call me by my username, remember that it has three e's... |
