Advice for blocking dark
You guys have been so wonderful about giving me advice, and it's helped me out a lot. I'm really beginning to pick up on the strategy, etc. by fighting these plot opponents over and over. Great fun! Now, I think I could be doing better on this latest wave with the right set, but still don't know all my options well. Can someone help me again?

I don't have a particularly high level pet. It's a Yurble.
Level: 42
HP: 78
Strength: 74
Defense: 60
Movement: 45

Current set:
Leaf Shield
Rainbow Frost Cannon
Greater Healing Scroll
Scuzzys Comb
Tyrannian Lupe Tooth
Golden Compass
Downsize
Honey Potion

I have Burrow, Sink, Drain Life and Heal, as well. I'm having a hard time with all the dark that's being thrown at me by the shadows. I'm trying to hold off on throwing the honey potion until after they use their scorchstone and smoke bomb, but my current setup is making it (I suspect) harder than it should be to survive that long. Is there something for a pet my level that will help out? I'm looking at Coltzan's Mask, which I can afford, but is that squashing a bug with a sledge hammer? Or is it the sort of thing I should get? Thanks!

RE: Advice for blocking dark
Your golden compass defends against 2.6 icons of dark, and does 9 icons of damage. You have another 9-iconer, Tyrannian lupe tooth, which does not defend anything. (EDIT: in fact, it's only 8.66 icons, which although only sllightly less than golden compass, is still less.) For a cheaper alternative to Mask of Coltzan, you could replace the tyrranian lupe tooth with a second golden compass and not lose any icons in damage while defending more dark. Though 5.2 dark defence is still quite low, consider that a lot of their attacks have around 5 or 6 icons of dark anyway, so you are blocking a good chunk of their attacks.

Also, take a look at earthen scorchstone. This will defend 4.5 icons of dark, and 4 air. Also, it's only 5000np even with war inflation, so it's a very good item to have, even if you leave it in storage most of the time. The weakest shadow does a lot of dark+air attacks, so earthen scorchstone can take quite a bite out of it's attacks.

Mask of Coltzan is a very good dual-duty weapon (one that attacks and defends), and it's earth+dark defence will serve you well, even after the war, as dark and earth are quite common icons. However, the price is steep, and could possibly be better spent on training your stats before buying one. At your level it's effects might not be as noticeable.

RE: Advice for blocking dark
Thanks! You can see how green I am. Using the Golden Compass PROPERLY helped a lot. Blush I also bought an earthen scorchstone (only 4000NP) and replaced my lupe tooth with that. Much easier. I figured the mask would be a better idea at a higher level. This new set should do me for now!

I'm not an experienced battledomer but maybe you could look into the Ring of Lost for blocking dark. I'm using a Ring of the lost that I got from the Lost desert plot against the shadows and it works great. It blocks all dark and deals 9.5 icons (5 fire, 4.5 light). They are currently going for 4 - 4.5 mil however, I think the price is inflated because of the war.

There's also the Ultra Dark Reflectorb that reflects 50% dark icons. However I think it's fragile and I never really used reflectors so I have no idea if they're usefull or not.

RE: Advice for blocking dark
Everyone seems very enthusiastic about their Ring of the Lost - I didn't realize they were that "cheap". At least, they might be if there were any available. None show up on the trading post or auctions for me. After this war, I'll look into it. Some are sure to turn up. I was brand new last year during that plot, and by the time I'd gotten up to finishing my tablet, all the heavy lifting was done.

You can't find any on the trading post? I looked them up on the trading post and there were at least a few dozen lots with a Ring of the Lost.

Hmmm. Must have made a typo in the search box, then cut and pasted. Thanks!

RE: Advice for blocking dark
i had sold my first RoTL shortly after the LDP and used the money for other ventures temporarily i ended up buying it back and i am sure glad that i did ! i can tell you from personal experience that its better then the MoC but that the MoC is an excellent weapon in its own right it depends really where your pet is ( low/mid/high level ) but eventually i outgrew the MoC and wouldnt even consider gettin rid of the RoTL after it helped me to surpass 200 wins with those shadows (2 of them i racked up more then 200 wins each ) then i thought back to the LDP and realize how important having it was now look at how much the g-shield is going for and it doesnt even attack. dual duties are great and RoTL is a full blocker (dark) now another bonus is the fire gets through g-shield quite effectively combined with a BoD or other fire weapon so its scoring points all over... if you can afford to skip the MoC and move to the RoTL now ? i would. you would be doing yourself a favor in the long run but at your level i was using the MoC quite effectively.

ps-another thing to remember is if your not attacking your not winning.
