RE: good defensive weapons for mid level battler
Get an ice club cheaper on the shop wizard, just my two cents (consider stone club if you havnt already). Other things are covered.

RE: good defensive weapons for mid level battler
I already have the ice club. and i'm going to go for the cloudy wand of storms next, i'm traning defence so dual duties are gonna be my mainstay. i'm not going to get a stone club, smiply because I don't like having two club weapons equipped at the same time

fishcatch22 Wrote:my bori's defence is currently higher than strength, and I like it that way IMPO, so defence plays a big role in my battles. if you need more info, he's a bori, S: 24 D: 26 and HP: 30, Unless your defense is a boost higher than your strength boost(see idb articles for the strength/defense boosts) then having your defense 2 lvls higher than strength doesn't make a difference at all. I don't like shields and non-100% freezers... Challenge Swift_Rev14_6 if you are a 55 boost pet lookin for a fight (no 100% freeze ofcourse) BTW, 2p FTW! |

Yep, read this for info about strength boosts. Right now your strength and defence are both in the 20 boost. The next one is at 35, and until you hit that, it doesn't matter what the numbers are; you won't do any more damage with your current weapons than you can do right now.
Also, if you're going for Cloudy Wand of Storms (which is a decent weapon), get a Stone Club instead of the Ice Club; otherwise you are going to be dealing too much water. Both are buyable on the shop wiz and easy to sell, so you should be able to switch them out easily. I'd recommend a set like this: Stone Club Frozen Wand of Crystals Cloudy Wand of Storms Scarab Ring Ultrasteel Helmet/Mystical White Cloak Greater/Lesser Healing Scroll Freezer of some sort (more useful in 1-player than 2) One-use bomb (there are many decent snowballs and muffins) With this set, you could deal every icon type and defend against at least three icons of every icon type. The Stone Club does a solid 9 icons of attack, and the 7 icons from each of the wands isn't too shabby, either. At 10k a day, you shouldn't have trouble affording any of this. Eventually I'd suggest you grab a Honey Potion to complete the set. "Tact is just not saying true stuff. I'll pass." |

RE: good defensive weapons for mid level battler
Okay, but keep in mind that you might not do as well in 2-player fights if you keep ice club, as you'll be doing too much water (which is very easily blocked by the common leaf shield, as well as several others) and you won't be doing any earth (so you'll only deal 6/7 icon types instead of covering them all). If that doesn't bother you, go for it.

RE: good defensive weapons for mid level battler
If you almost never do 2-player, dual-duties won't be much use to you unless you're always fighting opponents who are the same strength boost as you (or one, maybe two higher), which is rare in 1-player. I have a 250-booster and I've finished all of Defenders of Neopia, which means I had to fight enemies with strength boosts of 300, 350, 375, 400, 500, 550 and 600. My dual-duties weren't much good because with their strength boosts, the opponents could do much more damage than I could block (if a 600-booster does 6 dark icons, even though my Mask of Coltzan blocks 6 dark icons, the opponent is actually doing much more damage than I can block -- displayed icons don't matter).
In 1-player you're often better off with the two strongest main attackers you can afford, a freezer, a bomb, downsize!, a healer, maybe another attacker for some variety, and some kind of shield (for times when it is useful) or a reflector or full blocker (and of course purple sticky hand for opponents with good stealable items). The usual strategy involves a first-round freeze, a strong hit with the bomb and main attacker, a couple rounds with the two strong attackers and burrow/sink, a turn with a main attacker and downsize! and a species ability... and on like that. Dual-duties are nice early on, but will become less and less useful in 1-player as you advance through DoN, or in a war as you beat an opponent several times. Remember, a 1-player opponent's strength and defence boosts are equal to their hit points, so if you kill even the easy Chia Clown a few hundred times for some kind of event, he's going to get a really high strength boost and your dual duties won't protect you much at all. I have a set very similar to that, i have 2 shields, 2 straight weapons, 2 dual duites, a freezer, and a healer. i've beaten kaisuki lu and edna with this line up, and that's the system that's worked for me. whenever I play a game, I like to keep things good and balanced.it's alomst scary how much you know about battledome weapons... i don't know if i could ever get that involved..... nothing better to do, eh?

RE: good defensive weapons for mid level battler
Haha, I actually don't battle that much; I just do DoN, wars and the occasional NCW/IDB event. It's amazing how much knowledge you can pick up just by hanging around here a while... and there's really only a smallish pool of weapons that are considered the best value for the NP. I repeat myself a lot, so it all gets stuck in my head.
Anyway! I hope I've been of some help. The only other thing I have to say is: definitely keep training. That's what'll help you most.
