It is now time for you to create your character. Click Create a New Character and you will come to the Character Creation Screen. Pick a name and see if it's taken, when you find one that isn't, you're safe.

Figure out what class you would like to be. Thief, Mage, Warrior, or Archer. Then click the dice. Depending on what class you are, two stats will be useless.

Thief: STR and INT are useless
Archer: INT and LUK are useless
Mage: STR and DEX are useless
Warrior: INT and LUK are useless

The starting stats will always equal up to 25. Therefore, you want a 4 and a 4 in the two stats that are useless. Keep rolling the dice until you get 4 in both useless stats. If you are VERY impatient, just get 5/4 or 4/5.


Now choose your hair and eyes etc. and you're done creating your character.

You are now on Maple Island. The girl will tell you your controls. Then you'll be on your merry way.

What do you do? Level up. To level up, you must defeat monsters and gain experience. You will seemonster soon, but for now, talk to all the NPCs (Non-Playable Characters) and read what they have to say. Remember to read the MapleTips to see what you can do.

Follow this guide to allocating your stat points after each level up:

Warrior: DEX should be about (level * 2), everything else in STR. When you get to level 30, put only 1 point in DEX per level. Decide when you want to stop adding points to DEX. Stopping at 80 DEX is about average, 60 is a low-DEX build, and 100 is considered pretty high. The lower you cap your DEX, the more damage you'll do (because the points are going to STR), but you'll have less accuracy.

Thief: Get DEX to 25 ASAP, then put all points into LUK. Your DEX should be 2x your level after LV13, everything else should go to LUK.

Archer: Get STR to 20 ASAP, then put everything into DEX. Your STR should be 5 points higher than your level after LV15. (So at LV20, you should have 25 STR).

Mage: Put everything into INT, then at LV8, get 11 LUK. Your LUK should be 3 points higher than your Level (at LV10 you should have 13 LUK).

You can become a Thief/Warrior/Archer at LV10. Go to your respective city and you can make the advancement from beginner. You can become a Mage at LV8 in Ellinia.

Standard build of dex = 2 * level until level 30, then adding 1 dex per level with a cap of 80 will probably need no or minimal dex gear for training until 70 or 80 or so.
