Priest questions
i'm considering either cleric path or ice/elec path for my first toon. although it's probobly ways ahead, what i really want from the clerics..or i guess i should say priests is the dragon.

how's the cost on summoning stones? can i use the dragon all the time without becoming dirt poor? can anyone post a pic of the dragon?

what other classes use summoning stones?

I like pie

There's a picture of a couple dragons in action, at Zakum. All dragons I have seen do between 1k and 3k damage, which is not that much, and they do not attack frequently.

Priests max Holy Symbol first, to increase their training speed. After that, typically elemental resistance. Priests basically just follow Dragon Knights (3rd job spearmen) and use HS and heal on them over... and over... and over when training at Grim Phantom Watches. The priests that train at Vikings climb up and down repeatedly casting HS and Bless. They don't actually do any killing, and because of that, they rely entirely on the rest of the party's kills for their exp, meaning that they gain their exp more slowly.

However, Viking parties are formed around the priest, and a priest can very quickly and easily get a full party, while it's a pain for me and other non-priests to find a party quickly. Priests can also go to Zakum earlier than other classes, as they are there to heal rather than attack. I've heard that priests training at Grim Phantom Watches gain exp much faster than those at Vikings, though it is more dangerous, and if you lag, you'll die.

Summoning Stones cost 5k each, and you could probably afford to use it, but it wouldn't be worth the cost unless it was maxed. To max it, you'd have to sacrifice the opportunity max a different 3rd job skill, such as Shining Ray or Doom.

Hermits, Rangers, and Snipers all use summoning stones in 3rd job as well. Rangers and Snipers use them to summon birds that act the same as dragons, and Hermits use it to summon a Shadow Double. Shadow Double follows behind them and does half of the damage that the Hermit does again by throwing two extra stars per Lucky 7's attack.

EDIT: Here are a couple more screenshots that may help you in your decision. I was about the same level as the fire mage using explosion in this picture (I am Ice/Lightning). Her explosion does about twice the damage of my Ice Strike, however, it is much slower and does not freeze.

RE: Priest questions
As a Cleric, money will be the absolute last thing you'll have to worry about. Ever.

Personally, I'm under the opinion that Doom does not need to be maxed, and Summon Dragon is a better choice of attack over a max Shining Ray for Zakum because it attacks without command. This allows the Priest to keep Healing and Dispelling without stopping to cast the relatively slow Shining Ray.

Gir- the Ranger / Sniper Bird summon does not have the same purpose as the Dragon. Heck, the Bird's damage is absolutely dismal- maybe 1k damage at max compared to 5 or 6k- the reason we get it is the 99% stun at L29.

RE: Priest questions
Don't get pulled into being a Cleric without thinking hard. Consider everything, if you ignore anyone's information, especially that of SCal, or GIR, or Spaz, or even Kage, you might not make the right decision. I like that we had to move to OMS, because I wasn't stuck as a Cleric anymore.

RE: Priest questions
Finalhit, what server are you in? And what is your character's name? The fun part of things game is interacting with friends. There are plenty of IDB members that would be happy to help you if you're in Scania, and a few in each of the other servers too.

RE: Priest questions
Consider the pure begginer. They get godly weapons. (very flashy and with huge attacks) theres not many of them so your original. You get a couple of skills.. which is more than enough. Smile

And lots of people forget that begginers are nessesary for a good party. A begginer in the party can increase your xp like nothing else. Liar

Or be a mage Loser.....

Giving my best shot at being a better person.

Disregard everything that Sticky said. It's all a lie.

RE: Priest questions
If you choose to go Cleric/Priest path just because you like Dragon, then you might aswell go Ice/Lightning.

To be honest, the life of a Cleric is quite boring. You're always going to do less damage than everyone else(even againts undead monsters, where you can heal damage them).

The only thing I like about Clerics, are they are huge money makers. Combined with a maxed MP Eater, I NEVER used an mp pot (until very recently Toungue). I was gaining hp from heal, and never loosing mana.

About what GIR said.. Your life isn't 100% dependant on a DK's hyperbody(increases HP/MP). Once you get Elemental Resitance to a decent level, you won't need a DK to survive attacks.

No, just dependent on them to kill things. That's what I meant.
