I have recently adopted a new BD pet who's defence is nonexistent...I am using Winged Scarab at the moment...is there any other defensive weapon I could use? No chance of training her stats up for obvious reasons They are:
Level: 50
Health: 900 / 900
Mood: delighted!
Hunger: bloated
Strength: ULTIMATE (313)
Defence: demi-godly
Move: ULTIMATE (182)
Intelligence: ULTIMATE GENIUS (142)

Her name is behold_tsuki and she only does one player

Her weapons are:
Freezing Potion
Bow of Destiny
Ghostkerbomb
Honey Potion
Ylanas Blaster
Winged Scarab
Sophies Magic Hat
Velms Potion

At the leagues this guy's pet is a Leaf Shield would be mediocre at best. It blocks few icons and only shines at low leagues or with a high defence boost.

That's not entirely true. It's still extremely useful in the whole span of 200 to 600 defence as well. The thing is, when you get a large gap between the strength boost and defence boost (much like the pet being discussed), that's where it becomes useless. But if the pet has balanced stats, Leaf Shield will always be great (unless you can afford a Ghostkershield or the like).

Basically at the point your pets at, theres no real way to make defensive battling logical. Its another tragic case of lab rat overdosage . You'd have to train a whoooole lot of levels in order to even begin training defence again. You're right in using the winged scarab as it fully blocks an icon as opposed to blocking single icons. your def boost doesn't affect complete icon negaters so if you know what your opponents carrying, full blockers like gshield, F-tabard, and PCH or full blocking Dual Duties like the RotL are all viable options for a pet like yours. Your pet won't get as much benefit from the additional, non-full blocked icons that the shield provides though and therefore probably wont be able o use the shields to their fullest potential.

And yeah, I don't think Leaf Shield is the best idea

Those are nice weapons Mickey but behold_tsuki shouldn't use the shields as regular weapons you could get more defense (even if it just once). If you use those shields you're losing some attack icons that can get you a win. I like to use double duties on those scenarios.

The most important thing for me is to develop an strategy and be aware (to take countermeasures) of others one, at least the most popular.
