So here I am, a newbie 1-player fighter... I currently have a Golden Compass and a 13-boost pet (it's pathetic, but I'm saving up for a lab map - I better get a RSB from this NQII game Toungue). I'm wondering if I should sell it and get a Fighting Fan, which costs 45k less Money Eyes and does the same amount of damage, since 1P opponent at my level does (m)any dark icons.

Sell or keep? I can always get a GC later. The offense is the same for both, I just don't think that fire icons for physical and the three dark defense is worth an extra 40k for me.
The golden compass is a much better weapon, but dualing cheap 9 iconers will be just as good 90% of the time.

For 1 player, I don't recommend you train defence. Extra strength boosts will be far more useful. =)

Psellias Fighting Fan x 2
Downsize!
Snowglobe staff
Blue scorchstone

The last couple of slots depend on your opponent-fill them will things like muffins, a purple sticky hand, thick smoke bomb, or a fragile 50% reflector.

Prickly potions are ideal at your level, but they're a bit out of your budget. One of these should be your next goal.

While true from a time-cost standpoint, be sure you've played Two Player enough to be certain you never want to do it if you take this route. (There are still long-term advantages to having Defense in One Player.)

At the 13 Boost, the Lab won't be particularly effective cost-wise (unless you like the species and color changes for Customise). The Compass is better than the Fan because it doesn't do Physical (which is the most commonly blocked icon-type in One Player), but both are mostly inferior to Essence of Esophagor (which is less likely to be blocked because it's running one less type of icon). However, the choice is up to you. You're probably fine with dual-Fans for now. (Put some of that money into training.)
First off, you SHOULD train defense. It's very worthwhile, even in 1P. If you don't have defense, you won't be able to use shields. Could a shield help you in 1P? It could against most opponents.

Secondly, if you bought the Golden Compass for under 100K, DO NOT sell it. The price probably won't drop any further. If you bought it for over 100K just sell it and get another one for less than 100K.

Thirdly, you should grab the insanely-cheap Ylanas Blaster before the price rises. The current price is really unfair for the seller, considering that other 13-iconers cost over 1mil. You CAN get by with Psellia's Fighting Fan or any other 9-iconer, but by the time you really outgrow your 9-iconer the price of the blaster would be at least 2mil. Go figure.

Finally, put a lot of NP into training. Since you're at a low level, you can train multiple times a day at the Swashbuckling Academy (and of course, Coltzan's Shrine). I train my Draik every day and he's now got 40+ HP, STR, and DEF and he was hatched on April 5th. Only train LVL when you're forced to so that you can maximize price and time benefits.

I recommend this build for you:
Purple Sticky Hand
Fighting Folder (upgrade this to a Lesser Healing Scroll, then a Blue Scorchstone, then a Greater Healing Scroll)
Golden Compass
Ylanas Blaster (or make do with Psellias Fighting Fan/Prickly Potion/Essence of Esophagor/Pike Pike)
Scarab Ring
Downsize!
Shiny Shoal Shell Shield (switch this with a Leaf Shield for certain battles)
Thief Dagger

Of course, you should replace certain weapons with species-only options if they're available, but the above is a build that will last you for quite a while, one that covers every icon type, in terms of both defense and offense. By the way, Essence of Esophagor and Pike Pike are situational items that are usually used to exploit holes in defenses, and cannot replace more powerful weapons such as Ylanas Blaster and Golden Compass in everyday battles. Freezers aren't that useful at this point in time, as you're not strong enough to do an insane amount of damage in one turn.
For one player, usually the only thing you have to worry about is either smashing your opponent silly, or using a full blocker against mono-icon weapons. Defence CAN be useful, but it makes training cost 50% more, and take quite a bit longer. As a 1 player battler, I've never regretted my lack of defence.

I have to admit it would be nice at the 400+ defence boosts with ghoskershields and such, but this user isn't quite there yet. The shields at lower levels only block slightly more than the offensive weapons, and it's VERY unlikely that ALL the icons will actually be used.

Valrigard, your set is a bit expensive for Insorak's budget. At low boosts, prickly potions are frequently a lot better than the y blaster, and are also more affordable. Also, the Folder can be equipped with another healer, which makes it pretty nice Ohmy

So, I stand by my first post, but pick up that Fighting Folder Valrigard mentioned. Toungue
Valrigard Wrote:Fighting Folder (upgrade this to a Lesser Healing Scroll, then a Blue Scorchstone, then a Greater Healing Scroll)

What do you mean upgrade? Fighting folder DOES NOT take up the healing slot.

And, since Tarla's last drop, Bronze Scorchstone might be cheaper than the Lesser Healing Scroll.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys Smile

This is my current set:

Fighting Folder
LHS
Leaf Shield
Golden Compass/Fan
Purple Sticky Hand
Downsize!
Scarab Ring
Mud Mixture
(I really hate it - would replace with something)

I also have the Heal and Fiery Gaze abilities. I will have 50-450k to work with depending on what I get as my NQII prize (yes, I will sell the SC if I get it).

I bought my GC for 83k on the Shop Wizard, then hit myself when there was one going for 70k on the next page Toungue Snowglobe Staff is 55k at the time of writing; that will probably go up (five years ago, you could find ones for 700-800 NPs, when I joined they were 45k), and I only have about 10k right now, so unless I sell my compass I will have no chance at one of those. I suck at flash games, so those are out.

I currently have 13-boost str and def, level 6, and 10 HP. I should probably increase HP, but am a little short on money :| Bronze SS used to be good when it would overheal, but now I prefer LHS.

I need to upgrade the mud mixture. Burrow should probably be next as well; Fighting Folder can probably stay. I'm considering replacing my sticky hand with another fan as it's only marginally useful, but that would make me completely broke. I'd also consider the Blue SS for the overheal.

All suggestions will be considered. Got any more advice for a noob?
With stats that low, train first. Get your HP up to 20. For the time being, replace your Mud Mixture with a second Fighting Folder (which will have slight use for a little while).

Since you're in One Player right now, you wouldn't be "replacing" Purple Sticky Hand with a second Fan. You can always swap your set around between battles.

::.Yawns.:: I'm too tired to give detailed advice, and everyone else is doing a decent job of it.
Okay, will train HP. What's the best way to attain enough level to train my HP that high without having to use dubloons?
Insorak at your level the best option talking about nps is using dubloons. Speaking on time the codestone training is the best.
But is there a cheap way to train my level first? I can't level my HP if my level is 6 and I have 13 strength. The Shrine is being relatively unkind to me.
