I would like to upgrade my Scarab Ring, but it's the only dual-duty weapon I have. I've got Unstable Slime and Ylanas Blaster as my two main weapons. I'm looking to upgrade to a Golden Compass or a Makeshift Ships Hammer, which defend 3 icons each. My budget is about 150K.
Okay, overall Golden Compass is the better weapon, It does one extra icon and defends three dark for only 105k. But depending on what you should get or if you SHOULD even get them, depends on your stats and whether you play 1p or 2p. If your defense is not in the same boost as your STR, then dual duties should not be considered in your set. On the other hand if they’re in the same boost, then it goes to whether or not you play 1p or 2p.
1p-For 1p I like Makeshifts Ships Hammer, it defends three physical which are a far more common in 1p than dark is so it would be useful.
2p-For 2p go with Golden Compass, dark is a highly common icon in 2p, and this will be the most effective.

For both 1p + 2p I would pick the Golden Compass.
Here's why:
For 1p, what you want is high STR, high HP, and high amount of icons. The Compass beats the Hammer by one icon.
For 2p, dark is more common than physical, like Meuka_Follower had said earlier.
However, this all highly depends on your current stats and the rest of your set.
I have noticed that Golden Compass has become (perhaps for a while not sure if they are still) buyable
If your neo name is the same as your username here, I gotta go with "none of the above" - Dual duties are only useful if you have trained defense. If you haven't you should just grab the cheapest 9 iconer available (usually ice club or PFF).

Assuming you have trained defence, you really should pick up a golden compass, but replace the unstable slime, you've outgrown it.
Scarab ring is still good, it's your best chance against y-blaster, and beats the common GoC-Stone club combo.
Okay everyone, thanks for your input. I've bought a Golden Compass, while the Scarab Ring still seems to be useful. I've gotten rid of the Unstable Slime.
