(not quite sure where to put this) but shazaam006 and goofyspouse did some testing tonight

Spankaroonie had a snowball and a stealer equipped, Shazaam_LabRayMe had a stealer

On turn 1, Shazaam stole the snowball
On turn 2, Spankaroonie stole the snowball back
On turn 3, Spankaroonie used the snowball

At the end of the fight, the snowball was gone, as if Spankaroonie had used it without either steal - it was not preserved the way single use items are when stolen and then used by a 2p opponent.
So it reactivates it rather than creates a duplicate. Interesting. Guess that means we're all forever forced to trust other people when it comes to applying various effects to our pets.
I think it has sense. Because Spanka... was the owner.

Imagine that you code (i'm not sure how it works; this is my disclaimer). Then you code that each thing has a <i>mark</i>. If someone steal your things and use it against you, s/he don't waste your property. But when you use it, lets say after a chain of tit-for-tat, its your stuff and not his because the <i>mark</i> is there.

I can't see any contradiction...
From my experience...when a single use item is stolen back...it has always been used and never once seen it reserved as when someone first steals it and used by the person who stole it.
I agree, I think it makes sense. Each weapon probably has an owner attribute to it. If the owner uses the item, it disappears permanently, otherwise it doesn't. Stealing doesn't matter in that case. D:
I asked a question about this a few weeks ago about Fangs, and I heard this is what would happen if we double stole. I guess as long as it is used by the owner of the item, it doesn't matter if it was stolen twice.
The system doesn't register the item as the opponents' after the second steal enabling it to return when used.

It's not new, though most battlers probably wouldn't encounter such a scenario in their careers. It's happened several times to me in the past with both one use and fragile weapons.

The first couple of times when I needed to rely on a fragile freezer for the time being, they were whisked off. Luckily they were species so my opponent couldn't use it and I ended up stealing it back, using it and having them break, yet thinking they would return so I wasn't bummed out about having to buy another.

Much to my dismay...I had to in the end.
