In 2p, it shows up as a Withdraw Made, and the opponent may get a Withdraw Received.
In 1p, it doesn't show up.
Neither counts for score.

isn't there a penalty somewhere for withdraws under the wrong conditions in 2p?

It depends on the time-frame and which person is the last to move.
Say you were the last to move in the battle. After around...10mins of inactivity...could be more...you can withdraw from the fight, your opponent will automatically lose, and a win will be registered in your log. Though, no score will be attributed.
I usually just wait out the 30mins to get the free-all withdraw (No penalties and no record). Whether or not they bailed, there's no way of knowing (unless you see them actively online and purposefully avoiding you) so I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt.
