Some would say it's overpowered for a plot prize that the top players could get 3 or more of. But there's no doubt it's here- so what are your oppinions about it.

Since it's release i havn't fought a quickfight not against one and have seen so many sets in this forum recently using them. But i'm finding it hard to find something tactically overpowering-

Scarab ring falls short of .63 icons head to head. SMH stops 7.63 icons, and a combo of SMH + Constant would not beat dual Y-Blasters. Common dual duties- Golden Compass, Mask of Coltzan (the blaster still winning by 2 here), Air Faerie Crown and Dusty Magic Broom all fall short of this Blaster.

It's major weakness from my point of view (as sombody who views sink/burrow as a major factor in battling as there arent so many turns yet) is that it pushes through merely 3.63 icons through sink and none through burrow.

So it's an interesting and powerful weapon, but can anybody think of counters to it? (no double burrowing! Big Grin)
Faerie Tabard is a definte

But its not expected at the level of battling this blaster is in, Sophies Magic Hat is going to be the most common shield

Since SMH is the only few weapons that do good against this weapon you think the price of the hat will increase?
It's another weapon you don't have to worry about once you have a GShield, nuff said~
Sophies Magic Hat sounds like a good choice, only lets two fire through. Ghostkershield lets all 5 through Sad

You really like G-Shield, don't you, Toungue?

I hate the blaster, and half for this reason: the only thing that properly "beats" it is the Tabard. There's really no combination of anything else that properly knocks it down to size to come out ahead.

The other thing I hate (and moreso, though the issue of its overpoweredness is probably more important) is that it's finished the economic destruction that was started with the 9-iconers. Even once Ylanas Blaster inflates it'll still tear apart the economy on the 11-iconers (which will only retain value due to the supply), and we'll also see a chain-effect on Scuzzys Comb and Ramtors Spellbook (after all, it's not too large a hop from those to the Blaster, price-wise).
Every mid-level player will want this weapon!!! Toungue
F-Tab is the best full blocking option, and there aren't any good cheap counters, but there are a lot of partial counters:

Scarab Ring loses against it, but by a small enough margin that differences elsewhere in the set or pet can easily compensate. Sophies Magic Hat is the best cheap defense against it, but does require either a defense boost advantage or superiority elsewhere in the set to be a win. Similarily Shiny Shoal Shell Shield is of theoretical use with a defense advantage, and tanks can block this with Tower Shield, although doing so requires a downright unfair defense boost advantage.

Slippery Floor Potion is close enough to be worthwhile if fighting against a pet with fire or water in their species attack.

Playing with the advanced search, Full Pteri Armour comes up, and someone should retest the physical on the peophin armor to see if that's been corrected.

Of course, as it is a fire-heavy weapon, the best countermeasures are probably the standards: morph for fire resistance or use a reflector. Scorchio's 30% fire and 50% overall resistance and Shoyru 20% fire resistance and species healers are viable here.

I expect some folks to try Greater Fire Potion, but even if our current stats on that are correct (which I doubt), it would still need 2-3 more icons to come out even.

Reflection isn't going to be strong against the blaster's 4-icon spread, but it is a thought for use against people doubling up on the blasters, or massing fire to leverage the blaster against G-Shield. There're also a number of full armors that block everything BUT the fire, so full armor + fire reflector may be a consideration.

Pirate Captains Hat is another consideration, as it will cut the attack to 5 icons with a decent chance of blocking parts of a secondary weapon.

Overall the blaster is really looking like a MUST HAVE for at the current stats and price. If nothing changes, expect everyone who doesn't already have dual WoR/BoD or better to be wielding two of them within the next few weeks.
NQII now looks like a very unattractive game to slog through for most. And the few who still depend on speed-running NQII Evil for income just got hit even further.

Shattered and Rabid covered most of the bases, methinks. Non-defense trained pets are not going to like the Blaster one bit.

I personally am quite horrified at the Blaster's release. Would it have killed them to release it at 60/75k points?

GShield and SoS are the two most important items in the neopian weapon economy. =P
Personally I like the weapon, but I do agree with matt_hui_ck that this and the robot thingamajig should have switched places making ylanas blaster 45K. It definitely would have kept things in check better.
Just a guess here, but I don't think Neopets WANTED to keep things in check. The early years (and wars) of Neopets rewarded the richest and best trained pets (no I wasn't one of them, and no I'm not complaining about it - it's hard to gripe about people who put in the time and effort and were pioneers on the site being rewarded). Still, between that basic situation and the fact that early training was easier and cheaper (unlimited faerie quests, Grundo's Gym, etc.), an elite grouping was set that was not only far above average, but which also, over time, has become a very small minority. My guess is that with the new ownership, Viacom, the thought is "we have to grow the site, and we can do that more easily if we level the playing field". The Scarab Ring was a similar disruption in its early days, and Ylanas Blaster now puts a strong offensive weapon into virtually everyone's hands that's serious about playing the game for a reasonable time period. It also takes away some of the advantage from the more experienced and wealthier players who've invested millions in the Bows of Destiny and Wands of Reality and such. It also devalues items like the TCG Blasters, the PKiln and the like. I'm not saying that it's fair, nor that it's what I'd have advocated, but I really doubt that it's accidental, and fully expect the trend to move more players into a vast middle will continue. Indeed, I think this is one of the reasons we're not having wars anymore - there was a horrible attempt to place fighters into one of three oversized divisions that didn't work, and since, there have been only plot fights.
