XP.

There's really no reason to upgrade to Vista as of now.
Windows XP SP2 definitely. It runs better and has more hardware and software support.
I agree XP... if i would have the opportunity to choose windos OS i would pick xp...

Now i have always wanted a linux os.
Vista is the Windows ME of our time. Take a look at this:

XP is comparable to Vista as far as performance goes, but Vista totally ruins your hard drive read/write speeds, and SP1 for Vista makes this WORSE instead of improving it (unless they fix it before the RC goes live).

Microsoft knows better than to drop support for XP and force Vista on all of us, so stick with XP until they come out with their next OS. Direct X 10 isn't worth it.
On a related note of Vista...how the devil did their HD writing speed get even worse? All the hype about SP1 of Vista was better performance, notably copy speeds.
I'm probably one of the few people out there who are running Vista, and it's only because of 2 reasons: my last comp ran Win2K and I had no reason to upgrade to XP (hated it and still do) until it suffered blunt force trauma and I needed to replace it. I built my new one and a week later, I had a free copy of Vista handed to me. That is the ONLY reason I run it now.
I'm finding Vista loaded with garbage that is basically intended for newbies and the easily-impressed... Rather than spending my time tweaking for performance, I'm usually getting rid of crap and "dummy alarms" left right and center.

To sum it up: if you get a free copy, still think twice about installing it.....
I've heard nothing but complaints so far about Vista, but don't have any real experience using it.
THe words from professionals (myself included) is that xp SP2 IS the upgrade
dual boot...
