This weapon sure has inflated. It's been retired for a long while, but only recently has the price skyrocketed. Anybody know why?

Fire Whip
Because it was only recently discovered that it's godly and abuseable in One Player. (It always makes me happy to know that such a weapon was existing under our noses for so long, especially when I picked one up years ago on a whim and stuffed it into my SDB.)
I remember a certain user was mentioning that he had an amazing strategy to infinitley win against the giant GCheif, but that he wanted to wait a week before posting the strategy. A week later after he announced what the strategy was Fire Whips were unbuyable. I had bought one to mess around with in 2p against Tanks to try to kill one of their shields since sticky hands wouldn't cut it since most people are smart enough to put something that is non essential in that first slot (like SoS when they have GShield), and it was 45K.

I have a feeling that this certain user used this week to buy them all up. (BTW not munsterpoo)
lol, I remember Fire Whip was one of my FIRST weapons. Along with million degree sword and stone fire body basher Big Grin It was prob 1-2k back then...

Interesting special effect. I never even knew about it Ohmy Can it change multiple weapons, or only 1 and breaks for battle?

According to Rabid's rating, multiple. Odds of it hitting multiple are slim to none, though.

None of us knew about it until it was discovered... how recently? Or at least, none of us realized the full potential. I originally misread it years ago as being Fragile rather than Semi-Fragile.

rabid and I tested it a while back (see the thread here). It's weird. It can do three things:

1. Just the two fire icons.

2. Two fire icons, and lose its fire -- that is, break for the battle.

3. Two fire icons, and transform one of the opponent's weapons, at random. It doesn't disappear after this -- you can keep using it and hope for another transform (although it's more likely it'll break before it successfully changes another weapon). It didn't seem to work against a pet with higher intelligence (it would claim a weapon got transformed, but it actually didn't).

It's great against 1-player opponents who have just one major weapon that you need to worry about -- if you have a lot of patience, you can keep trying until you get rid of that one. It's not so great in 2-player, but can still be fun.
I guess I'm out to lunch on this one, as I had one back in the day, knew what it did and still didn't think it was all that exciting. It has a LOW chance of changing your opponent's weapon, and a lower chance still of it changing the weapon you'd most like it to. Yes, if you're someone who is so desperate to get a win that you're willing to start, stop and restart a fight dozens of times, you may get a win over an opponent that you wouldn't normally get, nor really deserve (sorry, I'm a purist). If you're fighting a opponent with only one dangerous weapon, you should be able to beat him without this. If you're fighting an opponent that has a large number of weapons that are detremental to you, you probably would be better off training your pet more rather than going for gimmick wins. This said of course by someone who has no interest in wasting huge amounts of time to get on any one-player high score list, as I think that kind of time involved if you need to rely on gimmicks would be better spent in real-life areas rather than on slaying computer opponents. I'm certainly not above playing (and I'd love a "real old fashioned Neopets War to fight in), but I'm afraid most of the one-player opponent lists are more of an award for expending time and detremination, rather than an indication of superior skill or strategy. Again, I may be out to lunch on this, but as I'm allowed one opinion, and have the right to share it, there you have it.
I thought that when you said that you can restart till it transforms the correct item, but how do you know it transforms the right items? In the screenies it did not say the name of item that was transformed...

A lot of the players who deserve to be on those charts (those with the strongest Pets) haven't bothered to put the time and effort into them. I'm fairly certain the majority of opponents can't be defeated by a cheap strategy.

One Player opponents have a moveset that they're able to draw upon while they fight you. If you know their full moveset (which is not always every possible combination of their weapons/abilities) then you will find out in subsequent turns.

I think that I understood that, and I just tryed to buy 1 from TP for 350k to beat Giant Ghostgerchief but beat Him before i got it so i wont need it anymore.
In regard to Shattered's comment, I'll certainly agree to stand partially corrected. There ARE people who are on the lists who I suspect do use superior skill and strategy to get there. My intent wasn't to belittle them, but to note that the lists are for many others, recognition of determination and time spent on the activity, and that lists do not necessarily indicate overall battle proficiency. I think there are many highly trained pets which could make appearances on the lists if indeed, their owners "bothered to spend the time and effort", and for several of those, I don't feel reaching the lists would represent great skill or strategy, nor would factors other than time and determination keep them from being there. I do think that with a there is an overestimation of the difficulty that pets with full strength and defense boosts, and four and five figures of maximum hit points would have in reaching several of these one player lists. My point isn't to insult those who HAVE put in the time and effort, but rather to point out that the one player lists are murky at best as to what they indicate in regard to battle skill and strategy, but are more accurate indicators of time and effort expended on the effort.
