Rubik's Cube is a mechanical puzzle invented in 1974 by the Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Erno Rubik. Originally called the "Magic Cube" by its inventor, this puzzle was renamed "Rubik's Cube" by Ideal Toys in 1980 and also won the 1980 German "Game of the Year" (Spiel des Jahres) special award for Best Puzzle. It is said to be the world's best-selling toy, with some 300,000,000 Rubik's Cubes and imitations sold worldwide.

I've finally found interest in something. I got this for Christmas from a good friend, and now my times are all under three minutes! Of course, I'm not one of those gurus who solve them in less than 10 seconds, who use algorithms consisting of 26 moves only.

Scientists have proven that it is possible to solve the rubik's cube in 26 moves, and some day, I wish to be able to memorize my cube and solve it like them. Of course, I'd need an IQ of over 150, and while my IQ stands at around 135, I'm getting there.

Every night, I've been solving my cube, trying to beat my record. Any other cubers, please stand up and and share.

Av: 2:15.5
Best: 1:53

Av: infinity (has yet to solve one)
Best: will never be able to solve one

How long did you spend trying to solve it before going to the answer book, Toungue? I got one as an early Christmas present, but haven't been able to solve it on my own. I understand a lot of the very basic concepts of how the cube works, but haven't been able to figure out how to solve the corners.
I looked online for algorithms. Actually, I only know 5 official algorithms, all the other times I just play around.

As for a new average and best:

Av: 2:08.85
Best: 1:30
I just retimed myself using this timer

Average - 153 seconds (2 minutes, 33 seconds)
Best - 1 minute, 40 seconds.

I got mine for Christmas too, I do the Layer by layer method (I got the first two layers before I cheated and watched a youtube video, i couldn't get the last layer Toungue)

I've memorized a whole total of 3 algorithms, the rest I do on my own.
Ah, thanks for sharing the timer! It's awesome.

How do you shuffle your cube?

I work the same way as you do. Yellow fish or not?
I look away, and just move randomly.

Either that, or I'll practice algorithms I can't do quickly yet, and just stop halfway through.

I hate scrambling it. That part is so boring. I need someone to do it for me ;_;

...Yellow fish? Huh o.o

Basically, I solve one layer completely. Then I turn it over, and solve the middle edges. Next, I'll solve the top cross, line them up properly, and get the corners.
Assuming the bottom face was labeled
123
456
789

You would need a yellow in 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 8, or 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. It looks like a fish. Then you'd know whether to do
or
.
I never bothered to learn notation.

For the first face I solve, I usually do the green one, then I solve the cross (making sure it all lines up) then put each corner in one by one.

I just made your 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 8 lineup on the bottom, I'll see if I can figure out that notation and make it work Toungue

If you guys own a cube, and actually go watch a video or something on youtube explaining how, it'll take about an hour until you can solve it Toungue

Sounds impossible, but there are some REALLY helpful videos out there. Right now I'm just watching some to help me solve it faster Toungue
