Ever since I got into an argument about it, how Yoshi is pronounced has annoyed and fascinated me.
I can't find any official site that states it's pronunciation in normal english, so I though I'd ask your guys opinions Smile
In the Live action movie (*cringe*) it was Yoe-she, by the way.

I'm a Yoh-she girl myself.

Choices are (as far as my mind goes) :
Yoh-she
Yoe-she
I'm not seeing how the two pronunciations you've listed differ. Both Yoh and Yoe would have the same pronunciation.
I pronounce it 'Yo-she'...which of your options sounds like that?

I think your 'Yoh' version might be meant as 'Yosh-ee' (so that the first half rhymes with 'Josh'). Not sure, though.
It's really hard to get across pronunciations without saying them out loud.

Yoe-she would sound like go-she.
And yeah, Yoh-she would sound like Josh-ee (as it were)
Does that clear things up a bit?

Yash-ee would have made that more clear Toungue . But it's definitely not pronounced that way; it's Yoe-shee, as is even said aloud in multiple games (such as Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee).

Past that, it's obviously "Yoe-she". "Yash-ee" sounds like "Bashy" to me, and I can't imagine *anybody* (that's speaks English) pronouncing it that way. Are you trying to say "Yosh-ee" to me in your horridly uncultured Eastern American accent? D:

(It's times like these where I wish I were British so my culture jabs would have more potency.)
After playing Super Mario RPG years ago, I have to contend that the correct pronunciation is "wep yog." (Granted, saying it in a very digitized accent is too difficult, thus making correct pronunciation impossible.)

How many people have ever even tried saying Yashee anyway? Prior to this thread, I can only faintly recall one time I ever heard someone who didn't pronounce it Yoshee.
Also in Toadstool Golf/tour on Gamecube...yoshi says his own name when he hits a ball perfectly. Whenever I play that game for the next few weeks after if it's just my hubby and me in a public place or something...say waiting in line...I'll break out a little "Yo-shi!" to which we always start dying laughing cause it's just so funny.

Toungue
I've always pronounced it 'Yo-she.'

Anyways, in Super Smash Bros. Melee, the announcer pronounces him Yo-she as well.
I think the only people who might pronounce it like Option 2 are the people who don't know anything about video games (like the people who pronounce Mario mary-oh).

What's sad is, I've actually heard people say that. Dead
