What's sad is, I've actually heard people say that.
Smack them with a ban hammer pl0x D:
I pronounce it yo-shee.
Yo as in yoghurt (many here would pronounce yoghurt differently, too. Meh - couldn't think of another example).
Yo is pronounced like yo rhyming with go and blow. she is she like he thee, shee.
The debate should be between yo-she and yaw-she, or yosh-ee. But from the voting, I'd say that yo-she is almost unanimous. Perhaps this is an english speaking forum so we're all white-washed, and nobody japanese here is willing to argue that yoshi originates from japan, so there's probably a traditional word for it. Kinda like the real way to say linux...but that's something different

Note to self: there's a reason I stopped typing my posts in my browser. I just found out the fun way that we can't post non-English text.

According to Wikipedia, Yoshi is written in Katakana (implying it as a non-Japanese word, but that doesn't exclude it from being inspired or based on some word or words in the language). The exact pronunciation from that side would be close enough to our Yo-she (yo as in yoyo, she as in sheep). However, it would imply that the Yo can't stand alone as a syllable. The first syllable
is Yosh, but the second syllable would still be hanging onto the sh from the first syllable while saying the second.
Did that last bit make sense to anyone?
This is the kind of cases where grammar can't save us, apparently

i pronounce it like yo (as in yo-yo) and she
i wonder who pronounces it yah-she
o.o
Spaz: This was an unnecessary bump.
hi, i think the correct pronunciation of the dino character who 1st appeared in super mario world in 1991 should be yoh-shi, that's how i've always pronounced it anyway
also i think the cloud koopa character that 1st appeared in smb1 the pronunciation should be lackit-oo (lakitu)
