I recently deleted the last vestiges of AOL from my computer that kept coming up and causing trouble, so now I need a good virus scanner. I'm not sure the AOL one did anything anyway. Anyone know of one I can get online for free?
I used avast, and it was wonderful!
But my college makes us install their virus protector thingy. But otherwise, I would've kept Avast.
i use AVG but avast looks pretty cool too
i just installed it
im waiting for my registration key to be emailed to me
what does the resident protection thingy do?

Avast is excellent, it protects way more than Norton did for me (it detects almost instantly if you have it running on the background, whereas Norton would only notify when I'm actively scanning), plus it's free. That's a big plus
The only downside is that it takes up a lot of CPU and memory (at least in my case, but then again my computer is quite old already), and it takes a lot of time to actively scan. Still though, I prefer this one over any other.
Don't forget about firewalls and spyware detectors either, if you haven't got them yet. A virus scanner alone isn't enough to protect your pc.
i have been using avg for years now without a single infection. they have a free edition and it isnt a memory hog like norton. also it detects viruses or trojans on drives that are plugged in or when copying files.
