I didn't see any scorch marks on the leads for the vid card but on a pc forum I frequent someone has a very similar build as mine (mobo model vid card manufacturer etc) and that is exactly what was happening to him. no smells associated with it etc. so i can't entirely rule it out since we both purchased everything right around the same time, etc.

crossing my fingers it *was* just a dead board, however.

i wanna see my blue leds and white/silver case all operating and the zoom zoom zoominess i know i'm gonna have rofl
I got the new mobo in yesterday....and I had the PC up and running within a few hours and windows installed etc! Big Grin

It's so lightning fast O_O!!!

I didn't know they had a 3Dmark 06 out so I dl'ed that...got a score of 9806. It said it was good but idk Toungue I hadn't used the 06 version just the 05.
Anyways I can't wait to get my hard drive restored (data etc) and then it's time to really test out Oblivion Big Grin CoolPeace
Heh, congratulations! Smile

Building a new system is always satisfying.
Thanks graphite. I love how it looks too. These Lian Li cases are so slick and smooth...and the glows that they put off. It's a thing of beauty. Overall with the specs, etc. I'm very pleased about this thusfar. We'll see if it continues to be as wonderful as it seems now Smile
Congrats!!! Did you have any grief with the video card this time round, or did it go smoothly?
Video card went smoothly this time. Smile

I did post prematurely though Sad.

Shortly after I posted up that info, I restarted my PC and got a BSOD. I was like WTH?
Restarted again and started getting memory initialization errors out the whazoo. Then I was like I'll try reinstalling windows...and my hard drive was timing out. Sad

So I did diagnostics on both the hard drive and the memory....and BOTH have massive fatal errors. *kicks and cries on ground in a temper tantrum*

I've already advanced RMA'd the drive from WD and I'm waiting for the memtest results on the RAM to finish but I already have 70 errors there and it's only 36% done.

This is the worst luck I've had with a build as of yet. Period hands down.
Did you already overclock it? Toungue
With that Ai booster that asus has built into it.

I had it up on the +9% setting? I think. Most the temp got up to was 36°C...granted that was with a fresh loading of thermal paste that hadn't gotten through even one heat cycle. I'll be waiting until I make sure that the system is stable though with all the bum parts I've had on this build before I decide how much I want to push it.
OK get this.

I get in the new RAM and hard drive.

I install both. I check the hard drive for errors...none! Great!

I memtest the RAM..and I'm receiving 5-10 errors per pass (I let it run overnight). So I pull out one stick of RAM to see if it's coming from the slot or the ram. I tested it in both slots of the channel one on my board. No errors. Cool! I put in the other stick of RAM into both slots and test...No errors. Not cool.

I disable the SLi and test. Still have errors with both sticks in. So...am I wrong to think there is a problem with the motherboard at this point? Should I RMA the mobo yet again? If anyone can think of anything for me to check/test I won't argue as newegg won't be able to process my rma until monday anyways if I chose to go that route.
It sounds like it could be your mobo. Have you tried this:

Your mobo has 4 slots for memory, right? A B C D
Try the two other slots maybe?
Per the mobo manual, it says that the first set of ram should go into channel 1 a and 2a which is yellow. then the 2nd set of ram should occupy the black set which is channel 2a and b.

someone over on asus forums (tech person) suggest i do the following

Kingston ram is pretty reliable stuff. So what you might want to try is to set the ram voltage and timings manually. However, it seems that with Kingston ram, you sometings don't get the sort of timing values you need documented...Kingston still uses nanosecond ratings. Nevertheless, start with just one memory module and set the DRAM voltage to 2.0vdc. Set the timings to 5-5-5-16 with 2t commnad rate.

However...I've never set voltages and timings latencies whatever manually. So if someone here could help me I'm willing to try it if I knew how.

OK, After a crash course from a site I googled...I think I understand how this all works now. I only need to increase voltages, however if I'm decreasing latencies right not increasing? And, I didn't touch voltages, just increased the timings/latencies up to what he suggested and ran memtest...No errors!!! I'm going to let it go a few passes then slowly decrease the timings/latencies again to default and see how close to factory settings I can get. At what point should I start to up the voltages, however? *looks at eddie*

I'm feeling so empowered at my new found knowledge Big Grin
Guess what. So far *knocks on wood* it's all working! Ohmy I prime95 tested it for 2 1/2 hours and i'm going to do so again overnight for a 12 hour stint. temps are staying low no errors....*rubs hands together* i might actually have a functioning new pc! Big Grin
