Well different raters at different times mean different things by "intermediate" and similar rankings, but here's the general outline as best I can figger:
If your weapon set is based around dual scarab rings, you're a beginner
If you weapon set contains more than one weapon with "Attack Pea" in the name, you're "elite"
Everyone else is "intermediate"

. . . .
Thank you, rabid. You have cleared up a great mystery for me. ;-9~
As I see it.
Intermediate is just enuogh to beat (or at least to stand) a pet with low stats but strong weapons but not enough to give a fight to the same battle set in a pet with your stats or some boost above.
I think I am going to go through my ratings and try to come up with a more consistent idea of what it is. But gennerally when thinking about intermediate battlers, I think of pets with around 80 to 300 HP, and varrying amounts strenght and defense. But I also try and factor the weapons into the equation. I consder under 20mil to be intermediate, where people ussually are missing something like a shield/bomb/freezer but have nice constants, or have all of those weapons, but a WoR or UBG as a constant
It would be interesting to have an article written by all the raters with their opinion on a few aspects of the battledome. Many aspects are about personal opinion and battledome style. Issues like defence and such things would be addressed. That being said, ill answer this
To me an intermediate battle has got a few battles under his belt. He has a set with 9 iconers and is starting to know his way around the battledome. He has formed a tactic and has understood what kind of battling he wants to do (tank pets, n00binators. etc). I concider intermediate pets at the high ends of the 55 str boost and onwards. Close to the 85 str boost.
A beginner is expermenting in the battledome and learning what he likes about it so that he can build a tactic and his own style. Find out if he wants a defencive pet or not.if he will use dual duties or not. he also has a set with scarab rings and other such weapons. The pet is generally under the 85 boost.
Clearly everyone has a different opinion about this although they are all very similar. I thought I would add mine to explain that.
If we're talking in terms of a person being a beginner or intermediate level "battler", I don't think that stats and/or weapons should be how it's determined. It's more based on the person's ability to grasp the various styles of battling and strategies in the battledome. I don't care how good a person's weapons are, they aren't gonna win very often if they don't know how to use them effectively. Then there are other people, who have low budget sets and small pets whose knowledge of the battledome and strategies are incredible, and crush people who have much more expensive sets/bigger pets. I guess those would be the "elite" battlers, as given an even playing field would wreck pretty much anyone.
Intermediate weapons on the other hand I'd say fall around the 11-13 icon range. The best of the HT I'd consider as high-level weapons, and anything beyond that as "elite" weapons. Intermediate pets... eh... 125-200 boosts maybe? I dunno on that one, it's totally subjective... they all are really.
*shrug* That's my two cents, anyways.
