I'm surprised I didn't see this here yet ~.~

Apparently neopets has started a beta test of a NeoCash mall...

Using Real dollars people buy NeoCash... which is then redeemed for neopian items that disappear (currently in 90 days)

Most items cost a dollar or more...

Right now the items suck... they are nothing my pets would be caught dead in!

If you check out the news you can look at the mall, but hurry before they close it off again and we can't see unless we "pay"

I am a premium member (however I only pay the 4.99 amount because I signed up early ^.~) I wouldn't pay the 14 bucks or whatever they charge now...

I pay for Final Fantasy online... I've paid for GAIA ...

I'm wondering what IDBers think about this... Personally for some reason I can't shake the fact that it feels like a "scam" to me... Mostly because I can't keep the item... it just poofs after time (note: neocash also poofs if not spent.) Other's think it is worth it... however to me they seem "addicted" or something...

I trust quite a few of your opinions hopefully those I know best will respond lol ^.^

So tell me how you feel?

To me... I almost want to quit... seems funny but it is true, I have paid them money (bought all kinds of merchandise) over the years and now I wonder was I being "Scammed" the whole time... how far are they going to take this... I also feel ripped off because for my cash I may be getting a service but I rarely get any "worth" from the site... the SSW is gimped so that it doesn't make for sniping... the portal saves me time and that is about it... the items I get from my occasional Rare event is junk and I always get the crappy lotto tickets... the people that had lutari island paid less and got a lot more in neopoint terms...

I almost want to quit... but then again I'm also slightly addicted!

So lend me your thoughts... maybe I will just pack it up and move on for a bit or take a break (note: none of my items will be "given away" I still have children/nieces/nephews that still play... god forbid they want money for that junk that disappears... I won't pay for that )
I personnally don't agree with Neocash. its just a sceme to make more money. The things seem to range from 50 cents to a dollar. A little expencive for the items you get. This reminds me of Maple story ALOT. They sell items that are just for the look of your character. Same with neo. I have a feeling they will go towards paintbrushes and such things. It will not give people a bigger advantage but will make their pet look cooler. I have a feeling that they will also sale paintbrushes but i am not sure if they will dare to go into battledome items..

The 90 day limit eliminates anything that would give an unfair advantage. Let people pay to have a better looking pet. I play neopets for the people and the battledome. Right now this money making stunt doesn't affect me.
Maybe because Viacom wanted Nexon to create a cash shop for Neopets. It is a goldmine for them, it is the beggining of the end for the rest.

It is mostly for Pet customization, I don't know if there is going to be anything else added there.
I'm not too enthused about this. It's a definite money waster, and you don't get much for your money, other than aesthetics. What I hate is that NeoCash disappears after x amount of days...I mean come on. You paid for it. At least keep your virtual currency, it makes no sense for it to disappear other than for THEM to make money from you when you already paid for something and got nothing out of it.

And just one thing that kinda irks me the wrong way is dressing up your pet in the first place. In real life, people generally don't dress up their pets, and if they do, it makes me want to poke them in the eye with a pen, because it's just wrong and silly-looking. The same thought goes for neopets.

Oh, and just FYI, I don't support neo's premium service either, it's a waste of money. I think TNT's just trying to come up with ways to milk the money cow. Like premium, I'm not ever paying a penny for anything neo-related.
I'm rather disappointed that the items disappear after 90 days. Essentially "renting" clothes and whatnot for your pet really rubs me the wrong way. If you could permanently keep the items and they remained as they are (untradeable), I'd have no issues with it. It's just another way for neo to take money from the little kiddos... and their parents. Honestly, I'm indifferent to the whole thing, other than being a total waste of time.

What'll really irk me is if they expand this "renting" thing into other areas... such as battledome gear. What's gonna happen if you could "rent" an I-Staff for 10 bucks? Or a G-Bomb for 5? Talk about killing the economy.
Renting Super Attack Pea...20 bucks?
(I realize that there could only be 120 of these, but just had to say it.)
Use for avatar and BD, ugh.
A Chutzpha Award winning idea. Charging people real money to "rent" imaginary assessories for their immaginary pets. Have they no decency? If I worked for Neopets, I'd quit rather than be part of this wonderful new idea. I suppose there are people with more money than brains, or with loose change looking for a convienient black hole to lose it in, but I'd recommend lottery tickets if you want to waste money, eventhough I don't gamble, as at least with them you MIGHT get something useful for your dollar. Sad, pitiful, lame, pathetic....
Fortunately, I'm more annoyed by the recent change to the Boards: our active Pet is now displayed below our avatar, in case there are still others that haven't noticed.

There are two things I hate about the NC Mall: one, Customise is getting way too much attention. I understand implementing it, since it gives Clothing items a use (the bigger problem was the skin change that came with it, and while I've gotten used to it, I think it could have been designed better).

The real problem: they're "target audience" is children. They're trying to ring money out of children. While I have little respect for stupid kids that actually get money from their parents (which is somewhat hypocritical: I was relatively spoiled), it's wrong on too many levels. While I don't play any MMORPGs (and while it would ruin the economy in any game implemented in), I see it as less morally wrong to offer the opportunity to pay additional money when money's already being paid. Neo, on the other hand, is targeting money where it's not being paid, by an age-group that typically doesn't buy things online.

That's because the company they hired to do this, Nexon, is also the one that runs the Cash Shop on Maple.
Meh. It's easy enough for me to ignore.

At least so far. But I can't say I like the direction Neopets seems to be headed-in. If I wanted pay-for-play, I'd be gouging the furries in Second Life, or some other game where I'm allowed to cash out for hard currency.
Nothing will beat paintbrushes... they better not sell those in the cash shop too Sad
