I was calculating the amount of time some people with 2000+ games had to have put in and I was coming up with around over 4 days SOLID playing. As I understand it there are people with far more than that too. If I spent 4 complete days on neopets I could probably make enough np to buy all the prizes. I'd go mad, but I could probably make that much. In the end I notched up a paltry 1376 points. Hell, I didn't even play a single game in the first AC.
What really got to me was the immense amount of time Neopets obviously expects people to put in, even require them to put in. They know the draw of big prizes attracts people, as well as the trophies and so on. So in an event that actually requires hundreds of hours of playing time with a choice of only 3 games, the battledome prizes ought to be better than this. 10,000 points for an item that's worse than a scarab ring. That's a pretty hefty slap in the face considering people have to get it first in order to know how bad it is.
The prizes, especially ones with some function, really ought to be commensurate with the effort people put in. I think TNT really cocked up a bit here.
On a side note, I think the whole Altador Cup concept is pretty awful. People, kids in particular, really odn't need even more encouragement to spend tens of hours every day on a computer playing games (and pretty crap games at that). At the very least cap the amount of games/points people can play/get each day in events and plots.
