Vermonhermit, more likely than not, there is a 'range' for a tie
for example, they take the average score per player? (or some kind of weighed average) and they compare them
7 and 8 isn't a tie
but maybe 7.5 and 8 is considered to be a tie by the system

that's the only thing that makes sense to me, as what you said is true, it's almost impossible to have a 'real' tie

That's what I figured they were doing...

no significant upsets in the results from the 27th... it'd be nice to know how they were calculating the standings so we could see who's currently where and who still has a chance of getting in...
Exactly, and it would have been nice to know all along what each area of the scoring was worth, so one could figure out the most efficent use of time between playing yooyuball and either of the two games. They could very well be using some kind of a range, but if the scoring and ranges aren't transparent, one never KNOWS. Being somewhat paranoid in general, I always tend to pay attention to that man behind the curtain and what he's doing, and in this case, nobody really knows. Again, I'm not saying that anything is wrong or improper, just that letting players in on how things are scored would be helpful to the players, encourage more playing, and thus also be helpful to TNT. The general lack of communication about most things seems to indicate a general lack of respect for the intellegence of the game's players, which I don't think is a view that helps Neopets. If they told us all at the beginning that (hypathetically), a win in Yooyuball is worth 2 points, the Slushie game was worth .67 points and Make Some Noise .5 points, and updated total match stats real-time, I think we'd all be bright enough to figure out how to best spend our time, based on our abilities in the three areas, and would play that much more as we could see whether our efforts were having a real effect or not. I'll shut up now ;-D
Last year they had the right idea. After each match they posted the numerical SCORES for each team, so everyone could see how well the teams did. Granted, those scores were weighted, and in the bracket system only valid for the one game; but, at least you could look at those scores and KNOW that one team lost by x-thousand points, instead of wondering what had happened. I would be strongly in favor of them returning to that system, simply because having several days to play a match allows for those of us encumbered with full-time employment to schedule our time. If we had an entire Saturday for gaming, so be it. This having to squeeze in gaming time every single day for an entire month is wearing not a little thin.
Nobody says we have to play every single day, though. I have, as I know most serious participants have, but I don't think we'd hurt our teams by skipping a day. I would assume that, if there is some averaging going on, TNT is averaging the number of goals and the number of team members who sent scores that day, not the number of signed-up members. If that theory is right, then playing just a couple games in a day would hurt your team more than skipping a day entirely.
Which goes back to the problem that we do not know WHAT TNT is doing, or how they are averaging, since they have never bothered to explain themselves. If they had clearly explained what they were going to do, and how they would be averaging, then we would not all be having this discussion. ;-9
Editorial question:

Quote:Hey, I just want to know what's up with the Altador Cup scores. There must have been some problem, and that's obviously what caused the major delay for the 26th's match results. I've seen a ton of KIers claiming to have lost 200-300 games' worth of points against DC. Were they still factored in against DC, even though they weren't updated for the user? ~smallvillefan12225

Correct! We had an issue with the script that calculates individual scores and updates rankings, but all the scores are there and nothing was lost. They were still factored in when tallying tournament results.

The script is being fixed, and your personal results will be calculated soon. No worries!
what I would really hate is if there were some different prizes for each 'game' (seperate score) so that the prizes for yooyuball (the most important game) would be worth less than the prizes for SS and MSN
Match schedule is updated -- looks like we'll have three days of finals! I wasn't expecting that, but it's nice (sort of... I am pretty sick of the game).

yeah, definately a huge advantage for people whose teams are in the final four...

don't get bored yet cran... we got a big game tommorow for Canada day eh!
Oh, don't worry, I'll be playing. Wink I have a couple movies to watch while I play so I don't get too bored.
