I /believe/ TNT's stance on removing things is that it is not allowed if it gives you an unfair advantage, but if it's for purely aesthetic reasons then I don't think they would mind. It's an excellent Editorial question though, which means it will probably never be answered.
So very true theonlysaneone, but we might get lucky and have a decent question answered.
I've submitted it hopefully a few others do as well it would be nice to be able to edit for aesthetic reasons for sure.
I sent in this question:
Quote:The new site looks great (it's really a fresh new look!), but I have just one problem with it - it's too wide
I have to change my screen resolution to wander around the site without constantly scrolling horizontally, and everything else on my computer looks so small with the new resolution. Is there any way you could let us move/remove the side modules? It'd really help with the wiiiiiide problem. Thanks
Before everyone's opinion of me drops about five levels, no, I don't really talk/think like that. I was trying to make my question sound like the ones answered in the editorial to give it a better chance of being answered. Anyhow, that's at least two questions sent in about getting rid of the side modules, so I guess the chance of it getting answered just doubled.
However, are you sure it'd be considered only an aesthetic reason? If the side modules didn't have to load, it'd speed up the loading of the rest of the page (giving you an unfair advantage against other wiz/auction snipers/restockers).
Well then the same argument goes for those who edit their .css to totally remove the top ad bar as well and a TON of people do that. How is the argument any different?
Also, when I did have it done for that short little bit, I did not notice any speed increase. I'm already bogged down from the top/bottom banner from the sidebar and individual menus. Not from the side modules.
I think removing the ad bar is okay because it's an ad bar...not a part of the site they've specifically marked as unremovable. That, and isn't that part supposedly supposed to load last? The active pet module loads first, so it might just be that you've got a fast enough connection that you couldn't notice a difference. It'd probably do something for people on, say, dial-up (but of course, people on dial-up wouldn't be rsing/sniping anyhow).

You would be surprised that some people on dialup are great Rsers and make millions out of it. I've talk to a few people who were able to make np on dialup.

Actually, I doubt the Shop Wizard button being there will impact it very much. Remember, the Shop Wizard icon was in the same navbar that took users to the Main Marketplace, and for that matter, there's a big blue SW house sitting in the middle of the Main Marketplace sitting out like a sore thumb. I'd actually be surprised if the newbies didn't know about, rather I don't think they understood how to use it.
The problem comes in the links: before, we had Pet Central as the main way to get to our Inventories (or at least I used it, and every user that logs in goes through it), and it no longer links there, so far as I can tell. The second way to get there was the Shops link that took you straight to Neopia Central, whereas now that dropdown is the only way to get there. I might be forgetting one more way.
I haven't had my Shop at the top of my hut, and I was noticing a lull in my profits all this week anyway. My mall leader said he was still doing fine, though I'm not sure if that was just moral support or if he really is faring well. A bigger problem is that all of us are biting our nails and nervous about every short-coming, whereas before there were bad days. It's probably going to be a good two weeks before we all have a really clear idea about the state of malling.
As far as the restocking: no, not all of the mallers were great and able to compete in the high-end Shops. I ended up taking the Furny/Gardning position in my mall since those had been two Shops I'd restocked in. Even if I hadn't picked restocking back up at the beginning of this month, I'd still return there anyway, even if it isn't multi-million profit.
With competition, we need to start dividing up the numbers we finally have. Right now, there are 45,000 users on Neo. At midnight, there were around 22,000. At the peak yesterday, we had just shy of 60,000, I think. Now that we finally know for a fact how many users are logged in at a given time, we can start whittling down the number we're actually going against in any regards. There's a wager I'd like to make about restocking: I don't think there were more than a dozen people in a given Shop at a given time that were capable of restocking in that Shop. Factor in that there are fifty or so profitable Shops, and my estimate would say there are 600 people restocking at a time (less during the night). And I still think my estimate is high, but I'm basing it on a simple fact: we do catch restocks. If there was really a ton of competition, we simply wouldn't be able to.
And with that figure, also remember that there are about 700 mallers in Neopia that are Main Marketplace size. I'm still placing my bet that restocking competition would at least double, since there are as many non-malling users quitting as there are mallers, ratio-wise. Possibly less mallers are quitting, since nearly all of them are Neopia's upper-class.
there may be about 600 restocking during a time, but say each person restocks for 2 hours, that would mean they rotate 12 times during a day, for 7200 restockers, which is about 10 times as many mallers as there are (same 700 mallers for entire 24 hours), so we go to about a 10:1 ratio rather than roughly a 1:1 ratio...
After a few days trawling around the new site, I realised how lazy I had become, expecting the same things and doing the same things. Over the time I trawled I found I had a number of events unclaimed and a few other rewards resulting in a slew of codestones and thousands of NP's. Certainly going to be more careful about the lazinesss.
I use the premium portal (think boss key here), have a wide display and fast connection and haven't noticed any major changes to my earnings so a tentative thumbs up.
Overall for the whole weekend, my sales were 50% lower than normal (and profit similar naturally).
I don't know if this is a hit from the new layout or if this is a side effect of having the new site, people are less familiar with it and therefore weren't on the site long enough to do anything or didn't want to be fooled with it?
Just trying to think up explanations other than what I hope it's really not...
Or it might have been just a fluke who knows.

My pet look a tad too small, and my awesome userlook up looks bad now, but hey, it's still in the BETA stages of things, people. Just be patient about it.
At first sight, it was unfabulous, but after a few dats with it, and the realization that everybody else has to do this at 800x600, It was ok.
Neopets is trying to do the web 2.0 crap, but it really does not work for them. Although after nearly 8 YEARS they finally make it so that you can dress Neopets up with clothing.
Even though that is all fine and dandy, there's one problem: Neopets was never about the actual pet and customization. The idea of customizing your pet was an awesome idea, but the fact that they changed the entire layout to revolve around that, and making all of the pets more disgustingly "Cuter" was just a dumb move on their part. By this new layout, custom lookups, restocking, and more stuff have became either hard or impossible. Not to mention that this entire design is only catering towards people with super high-end internet, and everyone else is basically up the creek without a paddle.
The fact that they actually customized the pet was a very good move, but the fact that they re-designed the site to accommodate that feature is practically suicide, especially this late in the game. While I was never a big fan of Neopets, even this is kind of sad.
Yeah, I know that this is kind of a late re-stating of what everyone said, but I wasn't here in a long time, so pardon the redundancy. =P
