Umm....for any who are goofy enough like me to pay for premium someone suggested playing site in portal.....and my god it's so much faster.
Its still not like it was before but its MUCH MUCH better.
I'm back to 0.8s page loads on everything. (Before I was at around 0.4s).
Much better than the 3s before.

I missed it before, thanks! Every little bit helps.

It might be that I'm running a cable connection, but I've only noticed a very slight difference in the load times. Given that I'm running Adblock, I'd like to assume that part of the problem is the method by which ads were being priorly removed no longer working properly (which would account for the extra load time). It's the only explanation I can think of, and hopefully it will at least help someone.
Edit: It's halfway through the day (well, it's four in the Neopian afternoon), and I'm just shy of my average malling income for the day.

at least it gives me a reason to keep premium.
I flipped back to the regular site and went back to my 3-5s page loads.
flipped back and i'm back to my 0.8-1.2s. I'm running a cable connection too but I am on a 10 mb/s line.
Pretty funny to see that the female pets have longer lashes while some of the male pets are given thicker eyebrows.

This new skin is bad. There are way too many graphics, too much white space, and the whole thing looks generally chaotic. Even worse, there is a ton of unused space at the top where an ad should be, and I can't figure out how to get rid of it.
Many pages on the site look awkward now that the sidebars are gone, and I really hate having neofriends and pet stats on the left, without anything under them. The entire page is cropped at the ends because of my fullscreen browser, so I have weird gray space, then other gray space, then white space, then more gray space, then scroll bar. It's absolutely hideous.
Because of the theme I'm using (Neovia), my neopoints, events, and the clock are almost invisible. I have to scroll down on every page because of that giant ad space at the top, so the clock isn't in a convenient place for that. Before, I could see the clock while I was doing World Challenges to make sure I didn't go over, but now I can't even do that.
There are a few things I do like. The user lookup and pet pages have more information on them, and the games room is way way better than the old new one. It almost seems like the new skin was designed to make these pages look good, and then the rest of the site was made to fit it, however badly it looked.
Here's my idea: Give people the option to go back to the old skin, and leave the new skin for the pages it was intended for: gameroom, pet stats, main page, and userlookups. If that's not feasible, give us the option to "customize" our view of Neopets, like getting rid of the pet stat and neofriend modules if we so choose, or adding a clock module to the side. Tone down the graphics significantly, especially on pages that people might want to refresh on: shops, PHP games, shop wizard, etc. Finally, make the page take up the entire screen. Right now, about 25% of my screen real estate is wasted on gray space and the giant top bar, and it's pretty ugly.
Blah.. I'm pissed. Probably more so than any of you guys who have had a whole day to soak it all in.
After coming home dead-tired yesterday, I didn't even get onto the computer. I come home today, and WHAM. Smacked in the face with this.
I'm basically in agreeance with the rest of the population. The lag SUCKS. Not only that, but I'm really scared on my future. I JUST entered the mall scene and have splurged soo much money on this endeavor. Right now, things don't look TOO bad.
is still there, so people still have a way to get into the marketplace. However, if more changes ensue...
*Blah.. people can stalk me now!!
I think the main thing that's bugging me right now is how all the pictures are smaller...for some reason, that's really getting on my nerves. I've noticed a very slight difference in page loading times, but that's really it.
And as for malling drops...it was probably just because most people of the intelligence level to buy from malls were completely unable to find the Main Marketplace at all for a while, much less any malls. It took me a good few seconds to find the appropriate dropdown menu - imagine how long that must translate into for the younger kids who don't read too quickly yet, or for the people who just never thought of the novel idea of actually mousing over the funny little options.
i really like the new layout

how much would your average income be?

That's a secret for me to know and the rest of the malling populace to have a reasonably accurate speculation on,

. Put simply, it's enough to live comfortably on, though not enough to go BD-crazy with given my Pet's stats.
Weee, even if malls are all right for now, there's still the concern that future newbies won't be as likely to stumble across malls. While the situation, so near as I can tell, seems to be stable it's no implication of the long-term success or failure with this new layout.
