Armi Wrote:Dude! Don't bash my monkey! I'm not one to fight with a starter for long, but I swear to have that monkey for awhile...and I hate apes. Wait, it's a monkey not an ape.
I don't get the monkey hate. Blaziken can't touch that.
I disagree. When it comes to the battle frontier, Blaziken is make of 100% win, and, unless I'm mistaken, it's win amount is slight greater in 4th gen because of the special/physical change. Besides, statwise, Infernape is a Blaziken with slightly altered stats. Also, though I'm not 100% about it's moves, they don't look a whole lot more promising than Blazys attacks.
Comparison...
Blaziken (base)
http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/257.shtml
HP: 80
Attack: 120
Defense: 70
Sp Attack: 110
Sp defense: 70
Speed: 80
VS
Infernape (base)
http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/392.shtml
Hp: 76
Attack: 104
Defense: 71
Sp Attack: 104
Sp: Defense: 71
Speed: 108
Was going to compare move lists, but they both learn the same moves, for the most part.
Blaziken does have the better stats, but Infernape is faster and more balance, which makes it easier to be a mixed, though Blaziken's attack to sp attack difference is only 10 points different. Still, in a 1 on 1 battle, I'll give it to Infernape cause it will out speed Blaziken and should beat Blaz right before it dies. They both have the same defense, so yeah, speed is the factor here.
Blaziken is the stronger one, overall, but both learn the same moves, pretty much. IMO, Infernape kinda got the better move pool, can deal with a psychic better. Plus, as said, better for mix sweeping.
1 on 1 battle is not always a good comparison. Example: A Ninjask can easily take out an Alakazam. Of course, it's defantly not a better pokemon.
But with that aside, you do have a good point, the silly ape can handle certain situtations better than Blaziken. Still, I'm going with Blaziken, because, 1. I'm much more familiar with it, and 2. Come on, it's a fire chicken! That's TOTALLY better than a fire monkey any day of the week!
Trust me, I know 1 on 1 is a horrible comparison since legendaries can lose to common pokemon with the right set up. I was just saying if they did battle, but every pokemon can beat anothe rpokemon on a 1 on 1 match...super effective moves and all.
Still for a casual battle...both are good. Competitive, I'm hearing monkey is beating chicken right now.
I'm all about speed in Pokemon and truthfully, I had a Blaziken in my Ruby game and HATED it. >_> I restarted my game with a Mudkip and in Emerald I went with Treeko and both of them rocked. Blaziken required too much breeding and mine was male...and no Ditto in Ruby...yeah, I kinda was stuck.
My team will be for casual battling.
Really? I guess it would, as speed is very important, and the Ape doesn't have attack other stats that are that much lower than Blazys. Even still, I usually don't liked choose pokemon because they are powerful, I try choose ones I like. And, quite frankly, Blaziken is cool looking, while Infernape is as ugly as sin. Ergo, I'm going to stay with the chicken, and become a Blaziken puritist. Or something like that.

I found Swampert rather lacking. I prefer a strong Special Attack in water Pokémon; it had a good physical attack strength, but that's it.
Armi, do you not own FireRed/LeafGreen? I've been playing FireRed for the past week (I just got it), and I must say the nostalgia is quite wonderful

. It's very true to the originals, with improvements where appropriate, such as the addition of Running Shoes from Ruby/Sapphire, the computer box system from Ruby/Sapphire, the ability to trade with Ruby/Sapphire, and the Sevii Islands, which enable one to acquire many of the Johto Pokémon.
Mentioning Johto, does anyone here have Emerald version? If you do, please finish the Hoenn Pokédex. When you do, you'll receive a Totodile/Cyndaquil/Chikorita, which could then be spread throughout the IDB population by breeding

. I've already started churning out Squirtle eggs on my FireRed, and will start on Mudkips once I have a few more Squirtles.
If anybody can provide Charmander eggs, that would be awesome.
Please and thank you. *is a Charizard fanboy*
You could if you got FireRed/LeafGreen. You have plenty of time to complete it before Diamond & Pearl are released

.
I would be happy with a Ditto, only that

FR and LG didn't exist at the time I had my Blaziken. Remember there was a year difference. =P My Blaziken was only around for 3 months.
I do own LG though now and beaten E4 and done the islands, etc.
Swampert is a tank though, so he'd made for just taking hits. He's great in 2 on 2 as a supporter.
I'm getting a Cyndaquil from Pokemon

. I got the game 2 (or was it 3?) weeks ago and I'm almost done with it. If you do the 100 battle on Mt. Battle you get to choose Todo, Chika, or Cyn when you make it past 100 battles and they come with their elemental hyper beam...but who cares on those?
I'm at 40 wins so far...I love the fact to can leave after every 10 battles. Too bad my team is under leveled now. They difficulty jumped form level 29 to level 41. O_o WTC.
Actually, bad news there Armi. I'm pretty sure that in order to complete the Mt. Battle challenge, and thus gain a starter, you must start from the beggining and go to the end without leaving Mt. Battle or checking the PC. I'm pretty sure saving is OK though.
