The reviews on it basically slam it, but what cheap alternatives are there for a Pet right now? Also, does it act like a Scorchstone and recover post-damage, or is it like a Greater Healing Scroll and heal pre-damage?
I have a 443 HP Pet, and the six different really means nothing right now. On the chance that VHP heals post-damage, it's obviously better to me at this point. I'm still labbing (and will be for the foreseeable future), so species healers are out of the question. I don't think there are any healers I'm forgetting that I might want to consider, are there?
They're also both a tad out of my price range,

. I'm mostly curious on GHS versus VHP, since it wouldn't require anything to make that switch, and would actually be profitable.
Greater Healing Scroll is better since you have so much HP that non-overheal is nothing to worry about. You can just use the scroll when your HP is under 393 HP. Easy right?

Yes, for lab pets over 500 HP, Velm's becomes a consideration. It's not going to be competitive for 2 player, but it is cheaper than GHS and a lot cheaper than morphing repeatedly, or
Bag of Healing Dust which makes it worth looking at if you're doing a bit of 1player.
However, it's only really worthwhile if your HP are significantly greater than your Str and Def, as otherwise you will be able to deal and/or defend substantially more damage than you would heal by using a weapon, shield or dual duty.
Seriously, at 510 Str, 510 Def and 510 Hp. a scarab ring will deal 66 damage and also defend up to 66 damage, which makes using a slot to heal 51 a subpar choice.
However if you have a lab pet with 210 Str, 9 Def and 510 HP, a scarab ring is only doing 27 damage and defending up to 4.5 damage, so using a weapon to heal 51 is a reasonable option.

I actually don't know if Velm's Healerthingy is after or before heal. But after 500hp, it does become a good thing...however, even if you ahve 500/500/500...it can still be effective.
Let's say your battling agains sim stats and both have 50hp left. IF he heals with velms and atks with a 6 iconer. You merely atk with 1 6 iconer and maybe throw up some defense. He'll live and you'll die

So even if the healer seems worse than atking/defense, I think it's necessary in close battles. PErhaps velm's is underrated-, I didn't even notice it until someone pointed it out as a suggestion over GHS.
I know it's going to be worth switching over eventually, but just labbing (for HP), it's still going to be a little while before I see 57 more HP to "equal" the healing I'm getting with GHS right now.
The overheal/after damage heal were just two things that entered my mind when I suddenly thought about VHP as a consideration. I think I'd meant to be looking for overheal when I said after damage. Either way, both definitely have situational use that make them very good, and if VHP has either then it's definitely worth switching over now.
I guess I'll pick one up and test it out, seeing as they're only around 5K.
Crisp Blue Tunic and Bag of Healing Dust are nice to have in the back of my mind, though the next time I end up seeing that much cash at once I'll probably be upgrading one of my weapons before I upgrade my healer.
Edit: Looks like it heals before damage and no overheal. Pity. Mods can lock this thread.
