Well, there are quite a few...
Off the top of my head, a lot of BD'ers have Kacheeks for Kacheek Life Potion. Similarly, there are Gelert owners due to Gelert Healing Remedy. Also, there's a decent amount of Lenny owners due to Bag Of Lenny Healing Seeds and Entangling Lenny Lasso. However, at a high level (ie: strongest neopet in existence level), those wouldn't matter much, because you would own full healers and freezers without requiring a certain species, because I would hope high level pet owners have NP to fork out for Jade SS/LEV and H4k+.
However, lots of people also like Pteris due to their strong resistence to air icons. However, besides G-sword (don't quote me on this, it's been a while), I believe there aren't too many other air-heavy weapons.

Kau or Pteri, depending on whether you want 10% knocked off all attacks besides Dark, or if you want massive blockage against GSword.
Personally I'd still be labbing, but out of the two I'd pick Kau.
But in general, it really depends entirely on what range you're in. Low-level battlers don't really need to worry about the healers, though there's a very large mid-level that needs to.
