I'll admit it. I've always been a defence freak. I always planned that I would have that 700 def pet with only the 125 strength boost so I could dominate league battles. Then, I got busy. My last 2 player battle was probably 7 or 8 months ago.

I'm at a point where I could either train my defence along with my strength, or I could forget defence forever.

Stats: (not labbing)
125 HP
125 Str
94 Def
Level 63

I have about 620k to spend, whether it be on training or weapons. That should be able to get me to the 125 def boost.

Should I get the defence boost or get better weapons?

And here is my set: (1 player only)
Stone Club
Stone Club
Snowglobe Staff
Kacheek Life Potion
Downsize!
Purple Sticky Hand
Leaf Shield
Scarab Ring
With those stats and set, you're generally better off training.

In fact with the jump from 3 per icon to 4.5 per icon, you're generally better off training all the way up to 200 boost than you are by upgrading. The cost of training from 125str/125def/125hp to 200str/200def/200hp is around 4.6 million and will increase the damage you deal with 2 Stone Clubs on cautious attack from 54 to 81. To deal 81 damage on cautious attack at the 125 boost, you'd need to use a Bow of Destiny and Asparachucks, which together are going to cost you around 9 million.

Except for being in the NCW leagues, where sadly your set doesn't even rate, because by rating on stats-only, the NCW has set up a system where the optimal choice is to only train when it is no longer possible to upgrade your weapons. I was going to say something silly about Wand of the Dark Faerie, and Super Attack Peas, as that's what the NCW rules actually encourage, but I'll be a little more realistic. The weakest equipment I've actually seen on a 200 boost pet in the NCW league 2 player is 11 icon constants, Honey Potion, G-Shield, and a 100% freezer.

I also advise against banking too heavily on overtrained defense, as the NCW is in the process of changing their league structure, and they intend to make defense worth more, although they are still working out just how much more.
I'd recommend traing the defense along with the strength. While your current battleset doesn't particularly take advantage of defense (other than the Scarab Ring), its pretty much a now or never decision and over the long haul, I think it's well worth it to have the added defense (I have the 700 defense boost myself). It allows you to maximize the use of dual duties, which often give you more overall bang for the nps than pure offensive weapons, in addition to aiding your purely defensive options.
Definitely train your strength and defence.

I suggest training and saving up for the Honey Potion. That can replace your Scarab Ring and make your Snowglobe Staff more worthy, although I do not like freezers. I would also stop training for a while once you reach the 125 boosts and get Honey potion. That way, you can save up money faster for more upgrades.
