Wow...I think you are very lucky that they are only making you help out some teachers as punishment. In the district where I went to school, they would have suspended or even expelled a student for getting into the database like that, even if they hadn't really tampered with or changed anything.
I really don't think you should have tried accessing the teacher accounts in the first place, as it probably wasn't the smartest thing in the world to try to do, but I also think that your teacher should have been required to have a harder password to guess as well. Using something like your first name, and not some sort of alph-numeric system is quite honestly, a very stupid thing to have done on his part as well.

Him telling people that you hacked his account is extremely misleading, as hacking requires the use of a program (at least, that's how it was explained to me. Again, someone correct me if I'm wrong) and isn't very legal, so far as I know.
Yep you're right. This is more under hijacking than hacking..
I did the same thing at beginning of last year but it was with a student's account. And I didn't just guess the password, I saw him type it but he typed too slowly so I saw it all.
I had my own account suspended, and had to pay a fine of $10 and my parents were informed. But I had no other punishment though, fortunately
I have loads of punishment from my parents:
1. Limited computer usage to 60 minutes per day.
2. Pocket money cut by 50% to $400 per month. (Hong Kong Dollars)
3. Community Services.
4. Cannot buy luxury items for 5 months.

Ouch. Hong Kong dollars? All those extra zeros mean nothing.
In here it does. $400 is about:
27 English Pounds
40 Euros
50 US Dollars
6,000 Japanese Yen

Wow...I can't believe your parents give you that much pocket money a month! That's a lot more than I ever got from my parents. I think I got maybe like 20 US Dollars if I was lucky, and that wasn't even every month!
Normally, I get $800 Hong Kong Dollars a month. That would be about:
54 English Pounds
80 Euros
100 US Dollars
12,000 Japanese Yen
That seems around normal, depending if you need to buy your own school lunch/clothes or whatever.
I think I get around 7 a week, so like 28 a month?

(United States dollar)
Anyway, it's completely your art teacher's fault for having a password that easy, my first neopet account was actually "hacked" for the same reason (account = brett52 password = brett

)
you got off easy

be happy for that lol
recently in my old school district this kid hacked into the school's database and changed all his friend's grades to A's.
How dumb can you get? Like no one would notice.
He's currently sitting at home, expelled

That's a lot of money.
Enough to feed a WoW addiction for sure.
