I'm new to the battledome and just started about a week ago. I want some advice on what kind of weapons/defence i should get.

My fighting pet's current stats are as follows:

Level : 23

Health : 40 / 40
Strength : EXCELLENT (44)
Defence : GREAT (23)

From what i've been told, Movement and Intellegence don't effect battling, so i'll leave those out.

Training Methods: Training School, Academy, Kitchen Quests and Lab Ray.

Income: My income varies. In a week i can muster up at the very least 150k.

I've found my pet unable to beat any 1p opponents above level 60 difficulty.

My current set of items include:

2 Scarab Rings
1 Leaf Shield
1 Purple Sticky Hand
1 Yellow Frost Cannon

My goals in battling are pretty simple. I want to eventually be able to beat the harder opponents in the 1p battledome and be able to help during wars. Concerning 2p battle, i'm willing to battle people, but it won't be something i really work for. I'm really trying to focus on 1p battling for now Smile

Actually, any advice would be great.
Scarab Rings x2 is a good combination for new battlers.

I would not reccomend Yellow Frost Cannon due to its ultra low chance of freezing, if you want a better freeze weapon, get a Snowglobe Staff instead.

At your stage, you can afford to buy a cheap healing weapon such as Lesser Healing Scroll

I would reccomend you to get weapons that can deal better damage at a low budget such as Scroll of Dark Nova & Enchanted Wooden Bow.
For higher weapons costing 100k+ NP, try Stone Club & Psellias Fighting Fan

You should also get a Downsize!.

So your new set of weapons should be something like this:
Scarab Ring
Scarab Ring / Snowglobe Staff
Leaf Shield
Downsize!
Psellias Fighting Fan / Stone Club
Enchanted Wooden Bow / Scroll of Dark Nova
Purple Sticky Hand

If you lab and want to keep even stats, training defence needs to be your first training priority, since in the long run the lab ray takes more defense than it gives. Alternately you can do what I did with my lab pet and just give up on defense, but that can limit your options in the long run.

Train Train Train Train Train Train. I can't say it enough. For 1player/war battling your expense ratio should be somewhere above 80% on training 20% on weapons, because that lets you deal the most damage for the least cost.

In one player, you will always eventually be facing opponents with Str greater than you defense boost (until your def hits 700). This means that the Scarab Rings great advantage of also defending 6 icons is not that great in 1 player. Getting constants with more offensive icons should be a priority. At the low end Obsidian Dagger can deal more practically for free. Personally I'd recommend springing for Von Roo Dice or a Fighting Folder for now, with a goal of upgrading to a pair of 9 icon weapons such as Stone Club and Ice Club by the end of the year.

If you wanted to do 2 player, I'd recommend Jade Staff too, since it does beat opponents who use Scarab Rings, but it's not that great for 1p.

The purple sticky hand is something you are going to want to swap in and out. Against some 1player opponents it can grab great items, against others (particularly some of the DoN challengers) it grabs intentionally useless non-battle items. When fighting those guys, replace it with a Snow Mudball or other 1-shot bomb.

Next, that Frost Cannon is just not going to cut it. For one-player get a Snowglobe Staff, use it in the first round on every battle and, withdraw when you don't get the first-round freeze. At least, that's what to do for diffiuclt fights.

Well the best advice I can give is to spend some time on this site and make sure you understand how the battledome works.

Topics I took way to long to understand myself include:
  • What "boosts" actually mean, and what the structure of their multipliers implies.
  • How defense actually works
  • How to choose when to use species abilities, faerie abilities, defend or berserk
  • What the various faerie abilities do.
  • What "fractional" actually means
  • Which types of icons are blocked by Sink and what types are blocked by Burrow
  • How reflectors work

He's a 1-player battler therefore icon variety doesnt matter much. Scroll of dark nova is just a waste in one player when you can just use a Scarab Ring.

I think you could do with a few different lower level weapons. I'm going to recommend a Fighting Folder- at your level the 2 HP steal is a total of 4 hp overall in battle. This means that, at your strength boost, it is equivalent to a ~8.5-10.5 iconer, easily the best you could do for the price at your boost. Of course, you will eventually outgrow it when you can afford real 9-10 iconers and have 55 boost, but for now its excellent. If you get this dont get an Enchanted Wooden Bow- they're essentially the same icons.

Next i recommend an Earth Faerie Slingshot: for its price, your getting 8-9 icons the same type as Psellias Fighting Fan but at ~34k- a mere fraction of the cost of Psellias Fighting Fan. A perfect starting weapon to your battling career.

The scarab rings, as im sure you'll gather, are severely underpriced compared to there power potential, so its good to have one in your set, even if they can't deal as much damage because they can defend alot of common icons.

Downsize! is debatable for your level, but get it anyway. If you use it at the start of a battle against 1-player opponents with bomb-type weapons (snowballs, robots etc), it can defend quite a bit.

Leaf shield is the only shield in its power/price. A must. Later, when you start facing more light, get a patched magic hat if you like, but only if you want to 2-player.

A snowglobe staff is fine. For the hardest of opponents, or if you have the patience any opponent, you start he fight with this and if on second turn they are frozen continue, if not withdraw, heal and try again. This will enable you to get a free shot in, so its worth it.

On the idb main page, there is a section called 1-player profiles. Some/Many opponents will have stealable weapons that are better than yours. In this case, use your purple sticky hand to get it Smile. Its cheap and worth it.

You have 40hp- even though the 25hp of a lesser healing scroll is fine you will shortly outgrow it- get a greater healing scroll and grow into it (hopefully you can afford one).

For some opponents you just need that extra push to get em- that's where a bomb comes in. You cant afford any multiple-use ones so get some Snow Mudballs or similar weapons that are cheap powerful and one-use. Don't use them when you don't need to though, cos the cost can add up Smile

My Recommended Set:
Purple Sticky Hand
Scarab Ring
Snowglobe Staff
Fighting Folder
Earth Faerie Slingshot
Downsize!
Leaf Shield
1-use Snowball or Similar
As you say you can get about 150K in a week a fair bit of that should probably go on training but i find buying weapons more fun so i'm going to talk about that Big Grin

With the amount of money you are talking about i would suggest you grab an Amulet of inevitable betrayal and maybe also an ice club or stone club you've got a constant 9 iconer.

I've never used a snowglobe staff and have mixed reviews about it so you may want to just experiment with it to see how it works for you.
I'm not a fan of psellias fighting fan because i think it is pretty overpriced for what it does when a golden compass is much cheaper.
I'm aware my plans are really going to burn your np but if you can afford it look into a Blue scorchstone as it heals after damage is done whereas Greater healing scroll does not.

I would reccomend a set along these lines:

Scarab Ring
Leaf Shield
Greater healing scroll / Blue SS
Ice/Stone Club
Amulet of inevitable betrayal
Jade Staff
Von roo dice/earth faerie slingshot
Purple Sticky hand

So that gives you
2 Plain Attackers
3 Dual Duties
1 Shield
1 Healer
1 Stealer

If you haven't got them also get burrow and fiery gaze as faerie abilities they are very useful.
Amulet of inevitable betrayal and jade staff work excelently with burrow as then you are defending all icons and although the odds for a freeze with fiery gaze aren't high (does anyone know the exact figure?) it can be very useful in a tight corner.

Anyway i think i have rambled enough for one post
