I'm thinking of upgrading my set to something a little more like this:

Any advice on which of the options i should take or if there is something blindingly obvious i have missed out is welcome

Since your attack and defense boost are the same, it is reccomended that you get dual-duty weapons (blocks and defenses)
Cloudy Wand of Storms to replace Jade Staff
Attacks: 2.6 fire 2.6 dark 2 water Defends: 3 earth
Golden Compass to replace Von Roo Dice
Attacks: 3 fire 3 air 3 light Defends: approx 2.6 dark
Downsize to replace Green Frost Cannon
YES, it's a must. The chance of freezing is too low. Downsize is useful against monsters who use their combo attacks.
Amulet of Inevitable Betrayal is an alternative.
BUT ... Sword of the Dead's attack icons are too weak, not reccomended for its price.
Stick with the Blue Scorchstone, Greater Healing Scroll is a pre-heal weapon (heals before the enemy attacks) and your HP is too low for GHS's healing.

Solid. The other option is Patched Magic Hat, for slightly less defense, but defense of Light instead of water. Virtupets x-514 is also worth a look (but usually only a look)

I can't make up my mind on which of these is better. AoIB has more attack icons, and is therefore better when you're not defending light, which makes it better in general usage. But thge facts that SotD fares better against Scuzzys, RSB, SoRF, Pike Pike, Bzzt Blaster, RotL, and against any of combo using two of these weapons: {Jade Staff, Electro Sword, Earth Faerie Slingshot, Enchanted Wooden Bow, Frozen Wand of Crystals, PFF, and GoC } makes me think that SotD is better in your 5-constant set. You have other options when not facing light attacks

I like that this shuts down Scarab Ring. I don't like that you have both this and GoC. Do you really plan on using 2 dark-defending dual duties. That's only going to help when you're up against more than 5 dark icons. And I just don't see that happening at your level without involving a Scuzzys Comb, which you'd be better off using your light defense dual duty.
Of course, if you see a bunch of Royal Wedding Ring + Halo of Devil Puss combos on your opponents or people start packing scrolls of the Dark Star, then you go right ahead.

Hmmmm i may get a stone club because frozen wand of crystals (should i get that btw?) will block ice club but not stone.

Get a
green frost cannon because you only play 1-p so you can withdraw until you get a freeze
Oh yeah sorry i forgot to say. I do actually mainly play 2 player. Just do DoN and the war in 1 player. Even so i found green frost cannon pretty useless. 11% really isn't good enough as on average it's going to take about 5 turns to get a freeze. (I think that's right as 5 x 11 = 55 which is around a half)
Just equip your last slot with a Purple Sticky Hand, high 50% chance steal, extremely useful in certain 1-player battles. If you still prefer freezing, just get a Snowglobe Staff.
Golden Compass is alrdy real cheap at 200k+, but you can wait till it drops slightly below that.
Sword of the Dead? I think you should just stick with AoIB instead, like I mention the attack isn't worth the price.
