So long story short, I have Final Fantasy 7 (I've had it for quite sometime). The only thing I dislike is that it takes up the full screen. Does anyone know how to put a game into a smaller window? (or if you even can?)
Some games have a shortcut in their start menu group to something like Video Options. If it does, there might be an option there to display it windowed (check for a check-box saying "full-screen" or "windowed", and also look in the resolution drop-down box for resolutions saying windowed). Other than that, I'm not aware of a way to force a program to run in a window.
Hmmm...
Under Final Fantasy VII Configuration XP, there's:
Display Resolution
320 x 240 16bpp (Full Screen)
640 x 480 16bpp (Quarter Screen)
640 x 480 16bpp (Full Screen)
Not too sure what those mean though

Theres a program called DxWind. I use to use it for Maple Story, but I havn't tried for any other games. It SHOULD work for others though.. Google around for it..
I just downloaded DxWind... I tried using it as a test on MapleStory, but it's not working. Maybe I'm using it wrong?
Perhaps try changing the DirectX function?
Grrr... everytime I try using the thing on FF7, it says:
FF7.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
One method is the batch file way. Try writing a batch program linking to the executable file with -window after the .exe extension. The default value is -fullscreen if no "arguements" are entered. Add the PAUSE command at the end to catch the result
Example:
"%programfiles%:\wadevergame\game.exe" - window
PAUSE
This method doesn't always work, it works on all versions and editions of WarCraft and CounterStrike and a few versions of Battlefield; but doesnt on GTA, but you might just like to try it. No risks. If it doesnt work, it will say "... is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
Another method to try to force a fullscreen prog to be within a regular window is to create a shortcut to the executable file, rightclick the file and select Properties >> Shortcut >> Run, select Maximized. The default is "normal window".
This might not work, and might deform even your screen though... Just try with Windows Minesweeper
Completely reversible if something goes wrong. No risks either
I tried the -window thing before... doesn't work ;-;
The maximized doesn't either

. Maybe FF7 just wasn't designed for this... >.>
google "ff7w" it is a patch that allows FF7 to be run in windows mode

if you can find a version of it....
I downloaded the patch and tried running it... then it says FF7.exe needs to close >.>. ARGH! x.x
