I've just finished downloading it and it has its server check. So I'm wondering, which should I go for? Thief, Mage, Warrior or Archer? And does what I choose make a difference to the actual game?
If you want to level up quickly at the start, pick the mage, but if you're looking for a powerful character at higher levels, pick the warrior.

And no, your character job will not affect the game. The only few differences are the job masters you'll be approaching when making a job advance, and a few quests that are only for one class.

Also, get more friends to play along you. The game gets very boring quickly if you're alone most of the time.
Do you mean friends as in real life friends or friends as in friends in Maple Story? My friends in real life are like... veterans...
Either. Just someone to talk with while training or partying would be fine. I always play alone in the bera server and after an hour, I get bored and log out.

Or if you want, you can join many players from IDB by playing in the Scania Server, but it's always filled up and you'll have a harder time training since it has a lot of people(but I'm not sure if it will be okay at low levels because newer players would most likely play on the later servers).
Scania is my only choice right now since I'm new to MS
And one more thing, make sure you read the beginner's guide posted in this forum first before creating your first character. It's hard to mess up your stats and if you do, most likely you'll have to restart your character.
Thanks for the help.
No problem, good luck and I hope you enjoy it Smile.

Do I have to add myself to the list?
You don't have to...only if you want to.

Make sure you read the resources and beginner's guide. Once you decide on a class, go to http://www.sleepywood.net, get an account on the forums, and find a guide for that class. When you roll your initial stats, keep rolling until you get 4/4 (5/4 if you're impatient) in the two stats that are useless for the class you're going to be. And make sure you know what you're doing! You can mess up you character if you don't.
Mages do NOT level quickly to start with; I don't know why you said they do, Jacobyts. Also, classes are pretty well balanced beyond level 100.
