I was just searching around the forum and I see most of the pets have like defence=1/2 strength or even 1/3. I can't understand how can they win battles with low such defence... a pet with 200 strength and 10 defence won't last more than a few rounds...
EDIT: oops, I think I put this in the wrong place.

Defence only makes a difference if you use weapons that
actually block icons. Training defence is useless if you don't have any defensive weapons. However, if you don't train defence and use defensive items, they most likely won't block as much as you would like.
Your defense does
NOT affect the amount of damage you take if you're not using a defensive weapon.
Lots of players train the pets with the Lab Ray, the ratio of increase defense is very low, and the ratio of decrese defense is like the ratio of increas HP or Str (aprox)
The same happens with Levels and the lab ray.

Of course we should have some defense items. I mean, 8 peas won't defeat many people

Actually they would.. but that's not the point.
Basically defence only matters when you use a shield.. Pheonix made a really neat slideshow book thingy on defence.. I'll go look for it.. partly cause I loved reading it.. partly to help you

And one has to remember weapons that block one type of icons (
ring of the lost) or those that blocks a percentage (
downsize!).
It depends on the strategy and the budget.
I train defence and try to keep it equal. Many people think its useless but sometimes it may just save you. Its more expencive but your stats also look nicer.
I also remember a story of ancient times when nobody thought defence worked for anything at all, and a lot of really old battlers never trained it.
The cost to 'fix' a low defence being as high as it is, some of them will never train defence, because of the cost.
There still is a theory that with enough hp and power you can just go all out until you win.
The old theory was actually that it didn't do anything past 150... personally even now I think there aren't really any defensive weps that are signifigantly better than their offensive counterparts/equivalents and so I don't think it is worth the huge increase in time and np to train defense.

I remember that, but where did that number even come from? It's not like there's a 150 boost.
I'd like to point out that MaxwelDemon's defense is actually one point higher than his strength right now.
YAY DUAL DUTY.
