I seem to remember seeing a post here about the sword you have in the beginning of the game and what it can do or something like that...

I did a quick search and couldn't find the post and anyway my question is:

Does equipping your Father's Sword guarantee you more critical hits (I believe that was it) or anything like that?

Thanks! And sorry if I misread the post and now sound crazy...heh
It has not been proven to guarantee more critical hits. However, it can inflict massive damage to the opponent.

I am planning to start a study once I acquire some screenshots.
More damage than a higher level sword?

There is a rumor that has been bandied about for some time now regarding Father's Sword. I have done some research into the rumor and these are my findings. There are 2 parts to the rumor:

Part 1: Fathers Sword deals more damage in the very final battle against King Terask.
Fact! It DOES do more damage. This is the very first sword that you ever got in the game. When used in the final battle, you'll get a message that states:

The spirit of Rohane's father lashes out against King Terask!

On October 30, 2005, I had Father's Sword and the Sword of Kings and I tried both. Using Father's Sword and Rohane at level 56, Rohane dealt criticals to Terask of 69 damage. I then let Terask kill me off and then switched to my best sword which was the Sword of Kings; dmg 72. Rohane had received no other swords for final equipemnt. Using this sword, Rohane dealt critical attacks to Terask of 55. So Father's Sword dealt 14 more damage points or a 25% increase in damage from Rohane.

Part 2: If you use Father's Sword in the final battle to defeat King Terask, you'll get the WORST prize.
Shortly after writing up this section I received a neomail from another player, phaleneak, who has used Father's Sword in 4 of her 5 games. I'll just quote the relevant section here:

I wanted to comment on the Father's Sword/worst prize section. I've used the Father's Sword on all but my Normal game and out of 3 evil games I've had the ToT once, and RSB and the Halo the other times. On Insane I got the SoA, so in my case it hasn't meant that I've only gotten the worst prize.

Angelala30 has used Father's Sword in 3 games on Evil mode. Each and every time, she was awarded the Tooth of Terask. Pure bad luck, I guess. I had also received a message about another player who received the Staff of Righteous Fury on Insane mode. Maybe the odds of getting a bad prize increase with Father's Sword; or maybe not.

I seriously doubt the statement "If you use Father's Sword in the final battle to defeat King Terask, you'll get the WORST prize." is true at all.
Me too. I can't think of a reason Neopets would put in a nasty little trick like that. It's not like the Father's Sword makes thing that much easier.
This thread is dead, but I'll post it anyway. Sorry for bumping it up.

The Father's Sword was downgraded a while ago and now no longer does nearly as much as it used to against KTII. I tried it against him a while ago, and died. That was my first time dying against him ever, aside from my first game, but I was a numbskull back then and messed up all my skill points.
downgraded? how much so?
It now does the same to KTII as it does to the monsters around it.
Is there still any chance of getting the spirit of Rohane's father to lash out against KTII, even with the sword downgrade? And does anyone have any actual screenshots of this?
You still get the "lashing out" message, it just hardly does any damage. SoA is much better, SoK too.
