How much did you sell it for?

I'm still selling it

*furious* TNT is in a lot of trouble. This is the final straw for quite a few people. I'm quitting neopets, and I know a lot of people who are too. It seems to me that there are more advertisements on a page than useful content. And much of it is inappropiate or causes popups, showing that TNT doesn't even CARE about what is put on their site anymore. It's just the money now, nothing else. And they're so obsessed with it, that they're creating more and more pay-for-amenities. Everyone was looking forward to Lutari Island, and now, you can't even use it without the beads. Add in the Super Shop Wizard, and the rest, it's incredible how non-payers even survive in the neopian world. Stupid, don't you think?
...Not really. Nothing has changed for me. They haven't taken anything away -- I can still play all my games, do Food Club, train my battlepet, fight in the dome... so what if they added some new pay world? It doesn't sound that appealing. There are two kinda sucky games, and you can send score 10 times per day on each, but you only get 100 np or so each time. There's a training school, but no one can afford the feathers for it yet and I doubt it's much better than the three we have. The healing spring and wheel and all the other features are just copies of stuff we have in the free Neopia. You can't be on the site and the cell at the same time or you get a "warning," and you can only sync the site and the island ("without penalty") three times per month. The only good things are restocking in the shop there (although the stuff is already falling in value) and the charity bog. The beads are available to all Neopians and are given out as REs even if you don't pay. It's really nothing special.
And premium... eh. The super shop wiz sounds cool, and if you earn the space faerie token, that's nice, but otherwise they don't have much of an advantage. No ads, cool, but I use Firefox and Adblock, so I don't have ads either. More little lottery wins (literally around 500 np) and 1000 NP per month for being premium? Not that special.
Most of Neopia is still free. You just have to think of it this way: we have not LOST a single thing in 6+ years of Neo. You can get some extra stuff if you pay for it, but the stuff's not that great, you don't need it, and it's not like they took anything away from us to give to the paying people. It's not worth quitting over.
Well, it's not all the advantages that bug me. It's more the commercialism of the site. When I joined, TNT actually wanted to entertain us. Now they just want to earn money. Complete idiots. They don't monitor the ads placed on, they continously get new sponsors who use no-brained advertising techiniques... The list goes on. You would think that Adam getting a few million from Viacom would be enough. Of course not! They just want more and more money.
Well, Neopets is a business. If they want to let all of us play for free, they need to be able to afford office space, computers, servers, bandwidth, artists, monitors, writers, programmers, and a hundred other things we don't even consider. Neopets is a huge business now and there are people working on the site from different parts of the world 24 hours a day. So they have to cover that, and then of course they want to make money too -- why wouldn't they? Every movie studio, every TV production company, every video game company, every book and magazine publisher is out to make money, not just to entertain us. And you can't fault them for that -- that is how business works. And it's not like they're just taking all this money and never putting anything into the site -- it gets bigger and better-looking and has more plots and events every year (we just had the LDP, The Altador Plot and the Altador Cup, all in a row, with a rumored fall event coming up, too!). If we had a completely non-commercialized Neopets... well, I'd wager Adam and Donna would have tired of it as soon as they graduated college and let it die.

They are pretty good about removing inappropriate ads or ads that cause pop-up windows. You just have to submit a message to tell them of it. Also, if ads bother you, use Firefox's adblock extension. I haven't had any problem because ads don't show up, and the space they would normally take up is eliminated.
Everything on Lutari Island is available or will become available on the main site eventually. I got a Yellow Urapa Bead for the Lutari Talisman in a random event while playing Neoquest 2 the other day.
Also, the recent Altador Plot shows that they do still have interest in those that play the site, not just money. Same with the Altador Cup.
....huh? the ads... Last time I saw an ad was a loooooong thing ago. Try Firefox, you won't even notice the difference.
In addition, get the adblock plugin and the flash block to block all the ads.
You guys are lucky, i almost have no randome events for a long time....I never have the beads so far
All I'll say is that it was the same for Mystery Island. Except that needed totem pole things. But look at that island now!
Does anyone have any stats on how effective either the Birthday Sidebar or the Beads are at increasing "luck"? If the beads are already so cheap, and dropping in value, TNT can't allow them to be very good for very long, if they're worthwhile at all.
