Major update! Read on the project here:

Feel free to discuss now! Make sure to read the whole thing before discussing (atleast up to the data list part ^-^).

I didn't expect 250 codestones to make the prices go down by 300 NP
Interesting stuff Smile

Pinned.
hmm... I wonder if the pinning made it less visible?

hmmm... there has been a general drop... first time it has been noted that general codestone prices has left the straight line inflation:

I like where this project is heading. The neopets economy is one of the least understood aspects of Neopets and a full study will help people understand whats going on and how things happen. Keep up the amazing work.
Good job Professor! (That feels weird XD) I'm really interested in the impact the imminent release of Lutari Island is going to have. If you don't remember, the Magazine article said they have a training school. It would be a rare study in what happens when an alternative to something is suddenly released into the economy.
Maybe it wasn't the 250 codestones? Perhaps it was the hoarders selling out? =/

But we also have to consider the fact that the new training school may use an alternative method of payment, possibly even NP. I'd like to see a totally new item used for training though, to balance the ever-increasing cost of codestones. Although if those graphs are acurate, we may have a slight recession on our hands. 300np is quite a jump when it comes to the huge market of codestones.
to be able to really look at changing prices over the long term (in our case say over a week) we need to be able to remove the cyclical fluctuations that occur in the short term (in our case say over a day as people have already indicated codestone prices tend to follow a pattern each day)

to be effective we should probably also look at patterns like does the price increase every weekend because more people are playing etc. so that if the price is 100np higher on the weekend it is a cyclical fluctuation rather then a long term trend

(hopefully that made some semblance of sense)
I just got an idea... everything seems to be deflating.. not just codestones... could it be the new restock system that's causing it?
It could be.. more less experienced sellers are getting items, and since that is happening they are selling for less because they don't know that they could be getting more, or they are impatient.

But wouldn't that mean that more people are now able to afford mass codestones to pour into training?

and I'm hoping that the new training school will be neopoint based, like 4k per course until level 20, then it's 8k per course, and so on, but I'm thinking if that happens then neopoints will become more valuable and really screw up the economy, unless TNT makes more random events to help offset the mass neopoints leaving the economy into the training school =/
more likely it's the aspect that the normal restockers can't get perfect restocks anymore, and nolonger can afford codestones in piles. No mass purchases to drive the price up, it starts to deflate.
