What's the deal with the Grackle Bug on a Stick being listed as a weapon? I just bought one for a whopping 1NP and it shows up as food. I don't doubt that Eyrieki somehow has it equipped as a weapon, but I sure can't do the same. Is it possible that it's only available Eyries?
The point is to stop you from stealing a useful item from him. You can't equip it.
Most 1-player opponents have items that do absolutely nothing that you cannot equip so you can't steal anything good. If Eyrieki uses red scorchstone, the weapon you steal instead is the grackle bug.
If you want a weapon that does nothing, get a
smoke mote or
Golden Sun Chalice.
