Hey, does anyone know where I can download game music? I'm looking for games like Kingdom Hearts, FF, etc. Or music associated with that kind of genre.
If you're simply looking for midi's, you can find them here:
http://vgmusic.com
However, if you're looking for mp3's, good luck.

It's possible that I can take a midi, resample it, and export it as an mp3, but quality won't be as good as the original, obviously.
What's the difference between midi and mp3? also kind of on topic, where can you download anime music?
Eh, can you download off of VGmusic? I can't find anywhere to do so...
Edit: Nevermind. I figured out how.
A midi file is essentially instructions on how to play a song. It contains instructions for what instruments to play and when. The information is sent through your sound card, and your sound card has a midi library from which the sound plays from.
However, an mp3 file is basically a digital sound recording (as the easiest way I can explain it.

). The basic quality of the sound comes from the file itself, not from your sound card. (ie: if you have a 5 dollar sound card, an mp3 still sounds like how it's supposed to sound. With a midi file, comparing a 5 dollar and 200 dollar sound card is like night and day.)
Therefore, midi files are a lot smaller in file size. D:
For anime music:

Difference between midi and mp3? They're different file formats. IIRC, midi is kinda close to being like sheet music, and mp3 is just a compressed digital representation of sound. Some computers/players might not be able to play midi. Look them up on wikipedia if you're really curious. Yay for learning about data formats in comp. org. & programming. o_o
Edit: The songs on that vgmusic site aren't actually from the games...they're made by people to sound like the actual songs, but they are not the actual songs. The metalman I downloaded sounded horrible compared to an mp3 of it I have.

I googled kingdom hearts and theme song to find Hikaru's simple and clean, fansites are also another good place to check for lyrics and such.
Speaking of midi, was anyone else impressed with the sound/music composition of advance wars dual strike (in comparison with past nintendo portable titles)?
Thanks guys! I get the difference between midi and mp3 now!
I forgot how awesome the final boss fight in Paper Mario 2 sounded. I got the midi of it, then went and got the mp3 as well (I'm not sure I'm aloud to say where I got it though...so yea....) I love it ^^ only problem is that on all the mp3s I found they have backround effects on them too >_<. The final one I kept though has very little (just a siren at one point from low health).
Eh, I like the site vgmusic, but some of the songs just don't really sound very close to the originals...

Galbadia hotel has music from millions of games and anime in MP3 and midi form. They dont have Final Fantasy on that site, but they have links to others. THere's also manga downloads and art book scans, if you want.
Its a fantastic site, I can spend hours there scrolling through the list of names, seeing one I recognise from years ago, and listening tot he musci from it. Brings the memories back, I can tell you. ^^
