But they loose their effectiveness once they reach their Lama Staff stage.. Since regular mages will have much better weapons than the Lukless.
But since INT = Matk in terms of formula, the extra INT they have from going Lukless would compensate from the loss of Staff and/or Wand Matk... In fact, I've heard that standard Mages only even out at the Kage Staff stage o_o

Well, it's not that simple at all. Let's assume perfect kage vs. perfect lama.
With lama, you don't need 88 luk, so all of that luk minus 4 (we'll assume you can get luk down to 4 via ap scrolls) would have gone into int, which provides 1 matt (and mdef) each.
Kage: 105 total matt.
Lama: 63 + 84 = 147 total matt.
+42 for lama.
Unless your other luk-required items provide more than 42 int+matt in comparison to whatever your non-luk equips do, you have a stronger attack lukless.
Edit: Scal kinda beat me, consider this just a breakdown of what he said

And also with a Black Umbrella you are much stronger than a normal mage. My will-be-cleric-someday on Khaini is Lukless, and I hit the same as people my level, only I don't have to spend money on newer weapons ^_^
derangedcow was a low luk mage, and he said awhile back from 8 -> 30 its good to be low luk you do more damage and can train at the higher level monster but as soon as you get stronger the stronger weapons match up so then he started to add luk. Its how he pulled ahead on scania at the begining and was first rank then
(i dont remember what he exactly said, but it was around the time i met him and around the time i made my mage)
Reeper, that's wrong.
The idea that luk mages will pass lukless oens comes from calculations using the hidden street calculator. that calculator is accurate for luk mages, however it's off by quite a bit for lukless (I'm hearing 10-20%). According to that calculator, luk mages even out with us at level 40, and catch us at the latest by 70. That's not true.
Also don't forget a sauna robe can still be scrolled for INT. We can still have that, and earrings. the only thing luk mages have that we don't is a helm with more than 2 INT (black bandana FTW) gloves, and shoes. Since I would assume snowshoes are used from 35 - a long time, that's no advantage, and a glove is only minor INT.
lukless mages are a way to get the same effect, or better from any type of mage...for less money. Only item that's more than 100k that you NEED is a lama staff.
Well, if you're quite rich, a Blue Maple Bandana, lol
yeah, but who's really going to sell one of those?
G: cleric rawks. No more carrying HP pots around means I can have 600 mana elixirs AND I don't have to dump any scrolls onto my mules
G: Fire boars are good training and money. So are jr. Kittens. I've done one level of f-boars, I'll now do one level of kittnes. I think.
C: I have no idea where to train... Level 47...any help
G: Helping a nooob friend level

, Feels good.
EDIT : @ Lukless mages comment.
I'm making one soon >_> when I can get a lama.
Level 47... Lunar Pixies FTW. Cloud Park V was amazing for me at level 48.
Depends on your damage. I believe I was at SDIV then although you still could be doing Jr Kitties or Dangerous Valley although I never found it too great.
Not Sure about training places in ludi but you could possibly try the Panda Teddies if you ohko them enough.
